just got my first gen b16a and i got some questions
how do i know whether the ecu is auto or 5spd?
is the y1 or s1 tranny better for daily driven/limited racing applications?
my wiring harness was cut when i got my motor. it was cut right after the fuel rail and also cut off right after that bunch of wires close to the tranny side of the block. what should i try to do? i have a 1990 civic si. thanks you guys

if those wires are the stock si wires just use the same wires. if they are the b16a stock wires that came with the motor for the feul injectors you can take those off and run your stock si wires. si harness is soooo much a like to the jdm or usdm b16a. the only difference the si harness that you have to do is add the 2nd O2 sensor, knock sensor, vtec selinoid, and oil pressure sensor. no cutting just plugs.
to check to see if the ecu is auto or manual... unscrew the top of the ecu and look on the board inside... you should see a stamp on the board that either says (AT) or (MT) HTH

Use the harness on your car the SI harness and run the extra 4 wires to the ECU. The tranny should have a sticker goldish color on it that says the code, J1, S1, YS1, or Y1. Check it out. The computer will also say AN on the bar code or open it up and check the top card in it for MT or AT...
this pic of mine should totally help you out:
...either S1 or Y1 is good for daily driving/weekend racer. Although, the S1 has a shorter final drive than a Y1 and has about 90% of the same gear ratios as a US Type-R tranny. The Y1's and YS1's are the ONLY optional LSD equipped transmissions from the factory.
...as far as the engine harness goes, it's useless anyways..why? because its a RIGHT HAND DRIVE engine harness.. The only useful things off that harness are the VTEC plugs which you need to integrate into your Si engine harness. That's right..it's best to use your Si engine harness and add the VTEC wires....however
..if you're interested - and have a PR3 ECU - I can reprogram it to where all you have to wire up is the VTEC solenoid and that's it. VTEC will work no problem and you'll have a Mugen program on top of that!
email me privately if your interested...

The S1 transmission is a b*tch during daily driving situations. I'm running 4000rpm in 5th at 100km/h (average granny highway speeds). However, if you're willing to rev the pee out of the engine regularly you'll love it. 2nd gear can be taken up to 90km/h, which is pretty sweet.
Katman just answered my question from the other thread .....
That is the program I am looking into.
