Default questions on lighter flywheel

I have a GSR with an ITR block, nice car but too pretty... far from a drag racer at 14.85 @ 93.6mph as my best time with stock IHE, Tranny, clutch, cams. I have an ITR flywheel in it and am changing up to a CM 7.5 with a segmented kevlar disk, stock ITR PP and TOB.

I have Azenis now and the motor is running very well, everything same other than
the clutch, will I see any benefit in acceleration? My 60' was 2.27" and 9.5" 1/8 mile on potenza RE730s. Just trying to get an idea if I should expect any added benefit performance/acceleration wise. While I am in there I will do ES mount inserts and shifter bushings

you might drop a tenth or two, then again you might gain a tenth or two.

its really too hard to tell, you'll just have to go and find out.

post what happens, im curious if just a flywheel will have much affect.

thanks paisan'

I love it. If you take the ups shipping weights of all my clutch parts
even though there were other items in the boxes:

3 of 3

1.) ITR TOB 1lb
2.) ITR pressure plate 15lbs (big box with some oil filters and paper in it)
3.) kevlar clutch disk and flywheel 11lbs.

what is actually spinning its safe to say is less than 24lbs... considering the
pressure plate is also fixed to the flywheel... thats not too bad
clutch goes in on friday with my ES bushings and mount inserts. Damn...
that breakin period will be a real pain... labor of love for sure...

stock pressure plate for GSR seems much heavier than the ITR unit.
id estmate like 20lbs by itself, disk is about 5 lbs and the flywheel on
GSR stock is 18 lbs... holy monkeys batman... so lets say... 38-40lbs?

I have a lightweight fly, but you don't really accelerate any faster. Rev matching is great though!

No. The only benefit that I have gotten out of mine is better rev matching. The car does not accelerate faster.

Well I doubt I'm the only one. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear pull noticable quicker. 4th and 5th do but not as noticable since the weight savings formula goes down with each gear.

Could be different on your car. I've tracked mine several times since and my times are all identicle.

7.3 lbs...trust me, I know...I weighted 3 of them on a very accurate shipping scale

Default Re: questions on lighter flywheel (Austin)

its kinda funny considering the weight issue.

the shipping package weight from my CM disk and flywheel from
ITR 132 was 11lbs. the shipping weight from Bert-O at Gettel for the
ITR PP was 15lbs with an oil filter and a few mouse pads and all that
packaging in a big box. that is all that spins... so at worst case scenario
my clutch weighs a total of 26 lbs, best case 25lbs. Considering ITR
flywheel is 15lbs, PP and disk like 17 we are talking a GT of 32 for a
stock ITR clutch. GSR... however... yikes. PP is like 22, disk is same
like 1-2 and flywheel is 18, so call it 42lbs... woah. I had an ITR flywheel
in there with a factory parted clutch probably at about 38lbs total.
Dropping 13lbs in clutch weight... holy *****. I am totally in love with this
clutch I have 220miles on it already Being a good little boy...
man do my RPMs ever rise quicker on that GSR tranny with that weight
savings The highest RPM ive seen on moderate throttle is
6200, I let the rpms fall back down before shifting smoothly though.
I can tell you its a ton more responsive. My motor is USDM ITR shortblock
with GSR head/ported IM(secondary runner ports reshaped), ITR valvetrain
and GSR cams. I cant wait to dyno/run a baseline 1/4mi and see how it does.
Last time I was at the track was in late 11/02. My car has broken in a bit more
and its been running very well as of late. I cant wait till 501miles!

VTEC+WOT+25lb (-15lbs) clutch = me
