Default The gory details... inside the demise of #55 (56k good luck)

Long weekend. I finally found the motivation to dig into the carnage of my wrecked Arrr. Originally I was just going to take pictures of the damage for the chap who is interested in the shell, but I got a little carried away. 4 hours after I started the motor and tranny were out and I was able to get some decent pics of the structural damage. Enjoy....

dude, if there was anything we could help you on. i think most of us would do anything to get the car back in one piece.

its soo sad taking apart a car like that, and knowing it isnt going to be running anytime soon, if ever.

hell, at least you are smiling in your photo.

sorry if youve answered this question already.. but how fast were you going and what did you hit? ive had a wreck at about 40mph and my car looked nothing like that.... and i thought that was a solid speed to hit something dead on.. you had to be going 60+ at time of impact?

Damn, hope you didn't hurt yourself in that accident. That one looks pretty bad. I didn't read every post, but I am guessing the car is totaled?

The header can be repaired and the intake can be salvaged.

The more events i go to the more i see things like this happen - and it can happen at any time when you least expect it - especially due to changing conditions throughout the day.

But the most important thing is that your dad is ok, and i do hope this doenst keep you from getting back out on track soon.

Well I wasn't driving it... I was in the car behind it when it happend. The exit of the turn were he went of is about 60mph. He took a lot of speed off as the car changed direction and then road the brakes all the way through the grass for about 100 feet. I'm going to guess he was going between 40 and 50mph. He hit a dirt enbankment pretty much head on. All of the impact, as you can see, was from the under side. The upper frame sections are perfect and there was no damage to the shock towers.

I've already got plans for the intake

Thanks man... Everything is sorted out. A fellow H-T member is going to buy the shell - not sure what his plans are. I'm no body expert, but I have seen my fair share of race car wrecks and this appears to be very repairable. I'm sure #55 will roll again.

The motor and suspension are going onto a 95 CX hatch to serve as a daily driver, show kaa, track kaa, etc.....

Again, my dad was driving.... Went through the 5/6 combo and carried a little too much speed on turn out... He dropped 2 wheels off of the rumble and the car proceeded to turn 90 degrees and headed straight across the track. He did the right thing and hit the brakes and put the clutch in. With the brakes locked on the grass he had no ability to turn and avoid the enbankment. One might argue that he should have tried that, but in the end I think he did absolutely the right thing.

Bob the track manager at Gingerman said he had never seen a car hit that enbankment in the 5 years he has been at the track... **** happens and eventually it will happen to you or your car.

this is not a personal attack, so please dont mis understand.. but just as you said, **** will happen.

you've got all these guys that are confused into thinking, the ITR was ,made for the track yadda yadda. cracking on people who dont take their R to the road course, which according to them is what it was "made" for.

there are a few members one this board, without mentioning names who clearly believe this and carry an arrogance about them in that matter.

then when **** does happen, what is the result? one less of the already rare itr's in existance. at first i thought it was BS.. but i think in like 20 years the ITR really will be a collectors item with probably less than 100 of them in existance!

good luck ausmith with the future plans of the remains of your vehicle!
