Default Fiberglass Enclosure Q's

I was just recently at Circuit City and the guys there were talk'n about stereo stuff. And I asked them how I could do a fiberglass enclosure in the sparetire well. They said it wasn't worth it cause its just for show. They said that the sound would be **** and that the sub would overheat and there wouldn't be anything to cool it done so I would fry the sub. I want to do the enclosure in the sparetire well, but I'm worried that this is true. Any ways to prevent it or something? ANything?

First your gonna need the specs of the sub and what the manufacturer recommends for cubic space for an enclosure (i.e. .5 cubic foot, 1 cubic foot, etc...). Then get a rough measurement of your spare tire well.

The spare tire well will work great for you. Don't listen to what those guys are saying.

I'm going to second that. What they told you is a bunch of crap.

Go back and tell them your going to plumb your air conditioning back their. Cooling

I wonder how a wooden box cools a speaker? Maybe since its MDF the box breathes LOL

So if I hook up the ac too it it'll be fine? Will the sound quality be just as good as having it in a subbox in my trunk?

Personally...I've never heard of a sub overheating...maybe an amplifier mounted incorrectly...but good God...why listen to them? LOL.

Overheating is one of the two ways that you can kill a sub.....the idea remains the same though...it doesn't matter what the box is made of....it won't have any affect on the operating temperature of the coil.

Won't a ported box run a little cooler than sealed?

It was a joke, I was trying to come up with something as dumb as they told you. Box doesn't matter power hadling is the same as long as the speaker is played in the correct range and not ported incorrectly. Power handling can go down significantly if ported wrong.

all i have to say is bullshit
i have 2 12" subs in a spare tire well fg box and i bump that thing for hours and never over heats
plus the placement of the subs will dictate the sound you will recieve

just make sure the box is big enough for the sub
