I live in Johnson City, TN , just about 30 minutes from Bristol so heck yah im goin. I kinda wish it was still in Pigieon Forge cus i dont wanna stay home, but it'll be fun. Tues and Thurs nights are street fights at the track. As far as I know they're still goin on this week. Come on down!
The town sucks in general. You have to remember that Bristol is a very small city (less than 45,000). There really isn't a "scene" minus the local riceboys and the eateries are not that great either. You'll have a better time if you go to Johnson City as it's a larger city and the food is much better - you just have to watch out of the homosexual population because Johnson City is known as the San Francisco of the eastern seaboard (not trying to step on toes - just informing our visiting guests). Exit #7 of of I-81 on the Virginia side is where most of the modern things are located such as theaters/food/Wal-Mart (really developed area). The TN side on West State St. is where the general cruising is located. State St. in itself is pretty nice though - Stateline Bar & Grill is good as well as Athens Steak House.
The track is generally nice on weekends when they actually have some sort of event. Concerning "test-and-tune" nights though - the track conditions are very poor. There are usually 200+ cars on a typical "test-and-tune" so runs will be limited and they do not prep the track.
If you want to know anything else - just ask. Enjoy your visit.
OH - if you want to get a real laugh - go check out Motor Mavericks - they spent a lot of money on a bunch of crap. They have a Skyline - supposedly from some movie - plus an AWD dyno. Prices are astronomical - but it's good to laugh at a bunch of riceboys who have a bunch of money to throw around.

It'll be a 1st time for me being there. How close is Bristol to Virginia? I wouldn't mind driving over there it's just I've heard horror stories of how bad the police are even when your just minding your own biz, not even speeding. Please tell me I'm wrong!

Yes I also wish it were still in P.F. Tenn. Went last year for the 1st time & I had a blast! By the way, my wife likes your user name. She's a real track junkie for speed.

If you mean the actual racetrack - then it's about ten miles from the state line. The city itself is a twin-city - meaning it stradles the state line. It is realatively easy to figure out which state you are in - VA has a 4.5% sales tax - TN has a 9.25% sales tax. Also - State St. is the dividing street between the two states. Volunteer Pkwy. is the main route on the TN side - and Commonwealth Ave. is the main route on the VA side.
The VA police are not too bad - unless you give them a reason to be (i.e. watch the speedlimit).
Enjoy your visit.
