Default CA Street legal Horsepower?

I 've had my ITR for about almost a year. I want about 15-20 more whp, if possible. I don't want to touch the internals since its daily driven. i live in the bay area and CA smog rules are very strict. I was wondering if there are any setups that can give me more hp and keep my car Ca smog legal. The only mods to my engine right now is a AEm cai....I might think about picking up a comptech header. I know a Jrsc is 50 state legal, but I don't want to go force induction. Are there any other alternatives? Thanks

JDM 4-1 technically is not legal but will pass at many smog stations. Also all exhausts are smog legal but not necessarily street legal. You must run a cat and carsound cats are probably the highest flowing cat available that is legal. I doubt you can get 15-20 whp out of a legal setup. SOMETHING has to be illegal. Even if it will pass smog.

you7ve gotta raise your compression somehow.....get CTR pistons...I know you said no internal work...but that is the biggest gain to get on an NA motor ans stay legal besides over-boring

I believe the Hytech system is CARB legal. Gonna cost a some $ but will get you that 15-20 hp.

What you want is possible, but not easy. All bolt on parts used will have to have CARB numbers to be legal. A lot of the good stuff does not have CARB numbers. For instance, there are no good headers with 2.5" collectors that have been CARB approved, so you will be limited to a smaller header. The HyTech is not CARB exempt; I have one BTW. The Skunk2, Stage 1 cams are about the only cams that I know of that have been CARB approved, and significant gains can be had with those cams, properly tuned. Good luck.

There are no "high flow" cats that are legal in California. That would rule out the JDM 4-1, unless you weld a 2.5" flange to your stock cat. (Although, that is still technically illegal, because you modified your cat).

The carsound cat is a legal high flow cat. Check the box.

Yes the JDM 4-1 is illegal but few know about it so it is a mod that many can get away with.

i believe as long as you have stock internals ( since u don't want to touch it ) , and everything else , boltons should be fine for smog( as long as there's cat.) but 20whp from i/h/e , u'll need some money to get some good quality boltons such as smsp header...etc.
