Default Come up with an optimal setup for a 99EX? ($1500 MAX)

I have a 99EX coupe. My budget tops out around $1500. That's max. I have ideas on what I should get, but I want to hear what you guys think.

Now what should I get?

I want to be able to play my music really loudly, but I don't want my bass to constitute replacing the windshield and windows with plexi/acryllic
I.e. 2 12"'s. Suggestion for speakers and enclosure? I don't want boomy bass. I want it to be strong and clear.

I want good component speakers with a crossover. They need to be able to be loud, but when I turn them down, I want to be able to talk over them without risk of underpowering. I want the same effect with the back speakers. Infinity Reference?

What amps do you recommend? I'll be wanting one for the two pairs of "regulars" and a separate amp for the subs.

How about the receiver? I don't listen to the radio much, but I do listen to CD's occasionally and lots and lots of ipod...therefore, I'll need an input from my portable device. I know that Sanyo makes adaptors for the back of their receivers.....I want high-voltage output, 5v preferrably.

Wire...I'll be needing lots of that, and probably stuff at the right impedance!

You guys know a lot more than I do with working with these Civics. I don't have any experience with these cars and how they carry sound. (Much differently than a '91 4Runner)

My music...I'll be listening to stuff like Oakenfold, Juno Reactor, KMFDM, Type O Negative, etc...

Thanks!

This is what I would recommend (I'll try to keep it under 1500);

I will give you two different Setups to look into. Both will give you amazing SQ (sound quality) while obtaining a nice, crisp SPL if you wanted it.

#1
Alpine CDA 9811 (this will suit everything well) $289
Focal Polykevlar 165K's Components $299
Focal 165CA Two-Way rear speakers $133
Infiniti PERFECT 10.1 subwoofer $159
Lightning Audio SPK4D Wiring Kit $69

$949

#2
Alpine CDA 9811 (this will suit everything well) $289
Diamond Audio S600s Components $329
Diamond Audio M361I Rear speakers $119
Diamond Audio M610D4 Subwoofer $199
Lightning Audio SPK4D Wiring Kit $69

$1005

Either of these setups will run you around $1000-$1100 with tax, free shipping if you buy them from http://www.onlinecarstereo.com but you can also shop around and might even find these items cheaper. I didn't add amplifiers because I am very biased and the brand I like are all expensive. You can EASILY buy 2 amps (a 4 chan for your comps/rears & mono amp for the sub) for the remainding $400-$500. That would run you $1500 total, and I guarantee you will be goddamn AMAZED at the sound quality and clarity.

I chose the 9811 as your deck because it gives you 4v preouts, plays cd/mp3/wmv, and will do everything you need for a very good price. If you want 5v preouts, you will have to give up having good speakers/amps, because those decks are pretty pricey.

Btw, option #2 is my preference honestly. I love Focal products, but man, I am simply blown away at the quality of Diamond Audio. You will see alot more from them in the future, thats a promise. There's another H-T member here who works at my friends shop, his name is ARunto on here. He's ditching his whole Kenwood setup in his new Mazdaspeed to go with all Diamond Audio. And thats the same setup he's going with. Most of the employee's there have switched over to Diamond.

Thanks, man.

How about sub enclosures and amps? A headunit won't power everything as I want it! :D

And anyone else?

I like option 2. I would drop the rears, get a less expensive sub like the infinity or alpine. A nice 100x4 amp, and bridge two channels to the sub. Run the rears off the head unit.

He will have a 12 inch midbass in the trunk

I think the only components that have descent midbass that rcurley liked was the JL's.

IDCX6.2's or 6.4's or a/d/s/ 346is or CDT ES 62's - I'd take any of those...

So, taking a look at this online car stereo place....if it was me, I'd do the following:

Alpine that was posted above is fine by me - 310 (by the time you get the harness and dash kit)
OZ Audio CS-180 - 320
PG T600.4 - 380
JL 12W3v2 d2 - 200

1210 so far. Get a 4 ga wire kit from knukonceptz.com for 40 bucks, then get a roll of raammat60 from raamaudio.com for 90, so your total cost is now up to $1340, and that would be a kick *** system.

OR

from thezeb.com

substitute the OZ comps for the the CDT ES-620 for 450 or the HD-62's for 400 or they are having an insane deal on the Classic series - you get them with an odd colored basket for 150 off bringign it down to 150 a pair.

Also if you want great bang for the buck subs, look at the IDv3 subs from image dyanamics - great SQ, they get very loud in TINY boxes. They are worth a look. The retail around 100-150 at sounddomain. I just did two 8's in a 0.7 cube box and they were impressive.

It's ohh so sad isn't it. I just put in the order for the rest of my wiring, and all the misc. install bs.

I am installing the horns tomorrow and maybe the mids in the doors if all goes well. I have an old Punch 4020 that I'm going to use for the front stage as a temp setup.

And no.....you can't have my 2500 - although it's sad that almost all of my gear is now obsolete!!

Good audio componets never become obsolete they just get better with age. Think about it then realize how true it is.

How about amps though? What brands and models are good for this setup? Should I run a single 800W sub as suggested or get two 400's?

Also......will my alternator handle all of this? This might sound n00bish, too....but how much of a strain would a new alternator put on my engine if I got one that would amply handle the system if my current one wouldn't?

Your alternator will be fine. You may get some dimming at night depending on what and how loud you listen to your music. Don't worry about it until you get there though

Hummm... Now how about amps? What amps should I order? I think that it's good to get an overpowered amp so that I don't run as much risk underpowering and frying my speakers.

eclipse amps are nice, u will not be able to find them on the net with full factory warranty, except me. if u buy eclipse from me, i will give u valid reciept, valid serial numbers, valid warranty. i believe most of their stuff is 3 year warranty.

I'm thinking about a passive radiator "drone cone" enclosure. Do you recommend this over closed or vented? Heh..and any good things about 4th orders?

I'm looking for a really clear, non-boomy bass where I get my power's worth.

There are many options of boxes to get. It all depends what you are looking for.
If you research about the types of boxes there are a few different types:

1. Sealed box: clear and crisp bass, not as hard hitting as the other boxes, takes up more space, and uses more power.

2. Bandpass: takes up less space, uses less power than the sealed box, boomy and not as clear.

3. Ported box: kinda of a mix in between the sealed and bandpass

4. Tubes

5. Custom box

This is what I have learned so far about boxes....

That list is a little off IMO.

Sealed normally takes up less space than other box options. It will not get as deep as the others either.
Ported is larger than sealed. Can be tuned to play lower than sealed, or for higher spl. The box may be good or crap depending on who designed it.
Bandpass is very large. Very difficult to get to sound good. Can be very efficient in a small range(1-2 octaves).
Tubes are not a type of enclosure. The tube will be sealed or ported.

Custom box-in a perfect world they would all be
