Top this...my second type R STOLEN tonight!
Anyone in the Northern VA/DC area, look out for a 98 type R with bronze volk te37s. The car was stolen at Gallows Golds Gym between 10pm and 11pm. Police report is made and I assume I will never see it again.
My first 98 R was stolen in 1999.

By the way, assuming the car is not recovered intact, I have some parts I'll need to get rid of to try to recoup some of the huge loss I will take on this.
how do you let your R get stolen?
i mean...if i lived in an area where i knew people were after my car...or had one stolen previously...
i'd take every measure possible to insure a thief would be unable to steal it...
whether that means a 2000 dollar security system....or whatever...
but i'm sorry to hear about your loss...hope it is found in one piece.

Unless you LIVE in your ******* car 24/7, it is always susceptible to theft. And BTW, if you think a $2k security system will save an ITR, you're dumber than your post would lead us to believe.

no matter WHAT you do to your car....if a theif wants it bad enough, he will take it.....no questions asked.......it's sad, but true
sorry to hear about your stolen R bro, maybe the theive's dicks will shrivel up and fall off within a couple of days?? heh

wouldn't installing a switch which triggered the ignition in a discrete place be enough to stop someone from driving the car away...
i mean...if the car is towed away there isn't anything you can do...but i was thinking an ignition cut which only you and the installer know about and also a good old fashioned club.
at least that way it takes time for the thieves to disable the club...and then they are faced with finding the hidden ignition switch which only the owner knows abuot.
and for the record, i don't even lock my doors...but i own a 92 EG hatch...so i guess its different.

I'm really sorry to hear the news.Stories like this deter me further and further from buying an ITR while in the NoVa area - when you cant take it to the gym for an hour w/o worry of the car being in its spot when you get back is too far for me.
Why have the car if you just cant drive it anywhere?
RJ - who went to DC last nite, 2 malls today a movie theater and a restaurant - and never once worried about the status of the car - i'd have had an ulcer by tonite if i did that w/ an ITR
I had this R for about 3 yrs now, no problems with vandalism anything until tonight. I was at the gym and looked out the window while I was getting a drink of water at about 10 or 10:15pm. The car was still there. Left at 11pm with the car gone. If someone wants the car, they'll get it. Alarms may help to a degree, but they are hardly perfect. If anyone here could make a security system for a car that was legal and 100% effective, I sure would like to see it.
To top it off, I just put on new Falkens 2 weeks ago with alignment...there goes $600 or so and just bought some brakes from cobalt. The box is unopened so I will try to return them.

do you honestly think people LET their R get stolen? yeah.. ITR owners really hand them the keys and disarm their alarm while doing so...
and if your question was meant to be more like "dont you guys take more precautions so your R does not get stolen?"
..the answer would be your own post

Sorry to hear about your loss, wish you the best of luck.
What alot of people don't understand is that an R should be purchased with caution, and understand that it shouldn't be used to goto the movies, to goto school, or even the gym. Yes, it's pretty shitty that it shouldn't be, but that is how you get one stolen. That is what I think chet is trying to imply. It takes two people to tango, one to put yourself in a situation to get robbed. Yes, security systems do help, but it's more mental comfort, more than anything else. The best thing to do is avoid "common" places if you do plan to stop. That is why so many R's get stolen, because people think they can just drive it to the movies, and use it like any "other" car, but you simply cannot, if you want to keep it for long.
Thieves are all over, which is total ****, considering our justice system is hardly useful for those type of things, so you just gotta use very simple judgement. I would never have an R if I didn't have a full time use of a garage, to start, nor would I ever take it out to end up parking it, in an ungaurded area for very long.
When buying an R, always use caution, there is no way around that. Yes it sucks, but that is life.
Just my .02
Good luck, take care.
