That's when you hear the AEM whistle, eh?

Umm..

1) vtec on a Type R does NOT kick in between 3k->4k. It kicks in at ~ 5800 rpm
2) is the sound you're trying to describe a whistling sound? If so, does the car have an aftermarket intake? If so, that is perfectly normal.
3) fyi, before anyone flames you, it's vtec not vtech

Good luck with the purchase

ha ha .. good one. Mess with the bull and you'll get the horns

You might want to sneak a peak in the engine bay

could be an aftermarket intake rubbing......if it's an AEM then thats def. what it is..........One of my friends type r's had a cracked rod bearing and you could only hear a slight ticking noise at like 3000 RPMS.....you could hold it there and the noise would persist...as soon as you gave it more gas the noise would go away

I would certainly hope you would know if its turbo. If not, maybe looking at buying a car by yourself isn't such a great idea.

Maybe find a friend that has some previous car knowledge when you test drive one again?
