Good shocks/springs for new ITR's??
Hi, my friend has one of the newer ITR's(forget the exact year, but its 5lug)
and he has stock shocks, with eibach sportlines.
the sportlines.. well.. lets just say they didnt live up to the "great name of eibach"
(lower in the back than the front.. sagging.. unequal height from left side to right).
anyways. He wants something new.
I know alot about suspension, but its mostly civic knowledge.
now I know the ITR is one of the best handling fwd cars,
so what would be some good springs and shocks that would actually improve his handling.
Is it just the same as EG's.. and other civics, ie agx's.. koni yellows.. bilsteins.. illuminas, being good shock/strut choices.
and as for springs... I'm thinking H&R?
actually i'm a bit in the dark as to what a good ITR spring would be.
he wants it pretty low. but definetely equal in the front and back, or at least lower in the front than the back(its the other way around currently).
thanks

Well your friend can get Ground Control coil-over sleeves and Koni yellows. This seems to be a pretty good combo. Becuase no matter which spring kit you get, it will be uneven. With the coil-over sleeves he can adjust it and lower the car to his desired height. Word of advice, lower doesn't mean it handles better.
I know lower doesnt mean better handling(well alittle lower is good.. but not too much).
he wants the lower look, and great handling.
tough combo... but hopefully we'll figure something out(with honda techs help ofcourse

Buy a set of stock shocks and springs from a low mileage stock ITR. Should run about $200. Super handling for cheap.
If you friend is just interested in lowering his car, it does not matter what he buys.
If he wants lower and good handling, a set of $1000+ coilovers would do the trick. (Mugen Lowdowns can be had used for this price.)

I am no suspension expert but, I think having the front of the car lower than the rear can actually cause the car to handle worse because more weight will be forward. The car may understeer more.

my Tein S Tech Springs are comin in today , i'll let you know how they feel.
As for lowering, your freind should be more worroed about how they will peform , than the "lowered look"

Nah David, that's a common misunderstanding.
FWD understeers is not because of too heavy up front. It's because the weight shifting AWAY from the drive wheels (front) during acceleration out of a corner, while that same set of wheels is also doing the turning. The result is understeer.
Being nose heavy is not the culprit for understeer.

yo, he has stock springs/shocks(stock shocks on, and spring in his room).
but again.. he does want it lower.
people like lowered cars nowadays.. sorry.. thats just the way things are.
and yeah, let me know about the s-techs.
i'm thinking H&R's also.. I know they make good stuff, any other ideas?

I would recommend the Mugen Lowdowns. Although they're about 1" lower than stock, they only have damping adjustment. Not being able to adjust the ride height isn't too bad really, especially if your friend doesn't have experience setting up a suspension. As the other guys have mentioned, lower isn't better and I'm sure that Mugen knows what they're doing, much more than me and I'm sure than a lot of others on this list.

yo, thanks for the insight. It's easy to get confused since lowered cars are such a new phenomenon.
What everyone is trying to say is everything is a tradeoff. Your friend should either get:
a JDM set of coilovers (Teins, or even Mugen lowdowns, or whatever)
Ground Control coilovers with Koni Yellows
S-Tech or similar JDM springs, or it's possible something else might work too
Anything else would make the car handle worse than stock (and so could any the above options if done wrong). If all he cares about is the "lowered look" and so all the wheel gaps "look" even, then just pick up a set of Ground Control or similar sleeved collars with some relatively soft springs that will still work within the effective range of the stock shocks. It's not a horrible combo... if done properly.

LOL.
If anything the lowered look is on its way out.

Lowing has been there for so many years, and I think it will still be a phenomenon.
