Default gf's car is burning oil.. what could be the problem?

my gf's 98 gsr (56k miles, previously turbo'd for 15k miles) has been burning a lot of oil, the motor still runs fine and pulls very strong except that evertime we change the oil the dipstick would show nothing.. or barely touching buttom dot. i thought it was because of the oil (mobil 10w30 synthetic) so we switched to using Neo synthetic oil, but just after about 1000 miles of driving it lost a whole quart again.. down to buttom dot.. what could be wrong?

I would do a compression test and look for leaks (mostly around the oil line that leads to the turbo).

Does the exhaust show any smoke?

Probably the oil line and the welds in the oil pan, but could be piston rings are shot.... Or too much vtecing y0!

All switching to 5w should make you burn more oil. Synthetic should make you burn more oil then dino oil.

i would do a compression test...most likely your rings are going. switch to a conventional oil and maybe a thicker weight.
