Here is my blown B18c1 motor with 117xxx miles. The rod cap went through the block and through the radiator. I found it in the shroud. the piston was below the dowel pin in 1billlion pieces. and the rod was bent. Some valves droped and the head got mangled. http://www23.brinkster.com/mikecollins\motor.html pictures.

Golden Eagle did that block for me, I don't know what they use, but the block looks squeaky clean.

Castrol Super Clean (big purple bottle...get it from Walmart for about 6 bucks) does an AMAZING job on oil and dirt. Sure, you can use stuff like brake cleaner or acetone, but that stuff is really toxic.

The Castrol stuff is amazing for something that is not a solvent.

I used a wire wheel on my one of my blocks and that came out really shinny, more of a polished look. For that to work you still have to clean the block from dirt and oil.

Depending on what you do with your motor if you have it sent out to have something done to it more than likely they can hot tank it for you which will get it sparkling clean!! Also you can use any kind of cleaner you want as long as its safe for use on aluminum. I did a little of both with a wire brush and some cleaners. I will have a pic up soon hopefully!!
