Default Battery light coming on at about 4k

Hi all I have a B16 in a 92 hatch. I think my altenator is going out? I seems that the battery light is coming on at about 4k. The car runs fine other then the light coming on. Is there any way to check? If I have to replace it what altenator to use? Del Sol? Thanks

Start your car and unplug the battery. If the car dies, then most likely your alternator is failing.

My car didn't shut down after I unplugged the battery. Any other ideas?

I would say look at (or have sum1 look at) the voltage regulator within the alternator. Have a load test done on the battery and the alternator as well. It's real simple to do and if you have even a basic knowledge of 12 volt electronics and a digital(or analog, if u live in the old days) multimeter it shouldn't take you that long to check these things out. With the car off (ignition, climate controls, etc.) as well the battery should be between @11.7-12.6 Volts DC. With the car running at idle it should be showing between 13.8-14.4 Volts DC depending on engine speed and any other accessories u might have on at the time. U might wanna shut off all ur accessories b4 doing the test (heater/ac, radio, etc.). I don't know bout any1 else but I had an electrical problem just because my alt. belt was really loose. Just go ahead and make sure of stupid little stuff like that b4 u go and buy a new alt.

That happened to me a couple of times with my S13. It just so happened that the alternator belt was loose. It squeeked for a while and wouldn't rev above 4-5k.

It can also be a loose battery terminal.

I hope you find the problem.
