Default Steering Wheel ... the big decision...

All

Trying to decide between the JDM SRS Momo and the JDM non-airbag wheel. Could anyone persuade me to go for one rather than the other . I could get the SRS momo for $450 and the other one for pretty darn cheap(not sure yet). These are the only two I am looking into because I really like the red stitch look.

Also, if I did decide to go with the non-bag version, which is the best way to turn off the SRS warning light?

Thanks,
Jon

Really? Why not replace the thread in your leather wheel wrap with red? (It's actually very easy).

yeah.. its not only that though.. i want the wheel to match the seats, but good thought. I also like the design of the JDM wheels, how they have three "spokes" rather than the US's 4. I dont really like the US wheel, not very comfortable.. i like the Momo's shape better. Any reason to get one or the other? People say get the bag, because of safety, but does anyone really have evidence that airbags help that much... I mean I have heard they mess up your face pretty good when they inflate.

What I would really like is the silver centercap on the non-airbag model.. because I am getting an aluminum dash.. so it would match, however, I am wondering... is there anyway to get the silver H thing on the SRS momo? hehe.. i dont know, any thoughts on any of this?

And I suppose hitting your face against the steering wheel instead causes no harm?

Damn, for $450, I would get the SRS one for sure!!!
Or if you want the non-SRS one, then get the SRS one, sell it for like $700, then use the money you make off it to buy the non-SRS one!!

well if you have your seatbelt on your face should never come close to the steering wheel.

I have glasses and the thought of ramming my face into an airbag is kinda scary...

For what it's worth, as far as actual feel goes, I don't think either wheel would offer an improvement over the stock ITR wheel. I also can't imagine why the stock wheel doesn't feel good to you.
Hmm... well, the non-airbag one has a smaller diameter, which affects the feel of the wheel. I drove an R with one, and the car felt very different. Just a different feel. As far as the grip, both JDM Momo wheels have a 3-spoke design which seems to be a popular racing design.... maybe there is some use for that (easier manuvering maybe?). And the SRS wheel has the perforated grip as well as a leather rap which makes the wheel feel different.

I dont know.. its a tough call though. I am getting an aluminum dash in my car, so I am thinking the non-SRS model may look nicer with that, b/c of the non-SRS's silver center cap. I dont know, the perforation on the bag model is nice too though. Any thoughts?

Come to think of it.. it would be sweet to get the Mugen wheel, and customly change the stiching to red.... somebody mentioned that.. how is it done? What kind of place do I bring it to?

Thanks,
Jon

Actually forget the Mugen wheel.... not really interested anymore. I thought it had a silver center that would match the dash nicely, but after double checking the whole wheel is black except for the horn buttons.... I cant decide between these 2 JDM wheels..and I have to make a decision by monday.

i wonder if the st00k's wheel would fit an R? the s2k's wheel is REALLY nice: small, compact airbag, sweet! maybe worth looking into anyway.

There is no point going to a JDM spec wheel (with airbag) unless you get the little box that goes along with it...

Imagine your surprise when you smack something and the airbag doesn't deploy because you a) do not have the correct hardware to operate it, and b) your insurance company decides to sue your *** because you are using a non-DOT approved safety device.

You are better off going with a non-airbag model rather than having one that won't work.

uh, as far as i can tell from my jdm parts book (stolen... sigh), there is no difference in the srs computers. but then again like u said, just because i'm able to plug in my jdm srs momo and the light went out dosen't mean it will work in a crash... solution: don't crash!!!!

Anyone know how much the NON-SRS model goes for on average:

new: ?
used: ?

I hear they are dirt cheap.

Thanks,
Jon
