As long as your install is decent, it will sound great. No, you shouldn't need an alternator.

you wont need a new alternator. but i would reccomend a cap and a new battery. my friends running all Boston Accustic indoors (6 1/2, 4" and tweeters), 2 10" jl w6v2's, a 300/2 and a 500/1 and he has no problems. this is in a s10 btw and it sounds so nice! i use to have 2 12 w3's on a 500/1 and i used my stock battery and i didnt need a new alternator (this is in a eg hatch)

No alternator needed for now. Upgrade your grounds and you should be fine with the 500/1. Talk to EVOL, he has that amp.
