Going to the drag strip tomorrow, tire pressure question.
What's up guys. I am going to go to the drag strip tomorrow and i have a tire pressure question. I have 16" SW388's with Yokohama ADVAN AO38's Soft compound in 215/45/16. What tire presure would you guys recommend? I am currently running 41psi for the street. Thanks in advance.
8-12psi
BTW John... i think we ALL know you got sw388's.. no need to brag..

Another question.....the advans are at their wear bars.....do you think they will hold up or should I switch to azenis?
Im guessing that those are street tires. I wouldnt run them that low but thats just my opinion. I ran last week on street tires at about 17psi and my rim was almost riding on the ground. But again thats just me. Good luck and report back to us what kinda timeslips you run

Thanks for the recommendations. It should definetly help me out.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Trying different things is the key. Normally I run about 35-40PSI on the street, so for the strip I lowered to around 20. I was still getting some wheel hop so I lowered a bit more and wheel hop went away so thats where I left it. It was really hot out, and my Kumhos seemed to like to be heated up and they actually got pretty sticky. Some tires like to be heated up, and others dont. It just depends on the tire and pressure and track. Just gotta play around with it a bit and see what seems to work best.

I've heard to not really lower your tire pressure much with street tires. It will lower your trap speed and provide minimal benefits on street tires.
I run 20psi in my SO-3's which are stiff sidewall tires as well. Although I'm sure not as stiff as yours. I've pulled 2.0 60' with them if that helps. I recommend maybe going a tad lower, but I wouldn't dip below 17psi since they aren't drag radials/slicks.

exactly. I would try 22-24 to start with and if you still get too much wheel hop just lower it to a tad. We'll play with it today jon , don't worry.

Did you heat them up in the burnout box or no?

Generally I just do a short little burnout to get the tires clean and warm them up just a tad, otherwise they'll get greasy if you do it too much.

This is what I do on Street tires:
-Set pressure in front to 21-22 psi
-Set pressure in rear to 45psi
-DO NOT heat them up in the water
-do a quick little burnout in the "dry" to knock off all the pebbles/sand etc.

NO! Don't heat them up in the water box. Bad news for street tires, because there will be water caught between the treads.
However, I do a pretty good dry burnout before I pull up to stage. Cleans off the tires and puts a tad bit of heat into them.

Same here. I thought that with stiff sidewall tires, that lowering the pressure will cause the inside of the tire to not make as much contact with the ground.
