if the spring is too short, it won't come in contact with the pillow mounts.

helper springs are xtra springs that that help the main spring make contact with the pillow mounts (such as Tein HA's, which uses a helper spring and main spring)

So we are talking about suspension coil springs here? Wow, you learn something new every day! BTW, I have been working on cars for a long time, and this is the first time that I have ever heard that term. Thank you

Actually, the helper spring just keeps tension on the main spring while the suspension
is decompressed so that it doesnt rattle around. the main spring should ALWAYS
be able to contact both sides of the shock or else you have a problem.

... when the suspension is loaded/car is on the ground.

So are all types of helper springs basically the same?

I'm guessing they have a low spring rate, correct?

As soon as the car is on the ground they're fully compressed.

Thanks.

helper springs usually a low rate and goes on top of the main spring.
there is also a tender spring which can be very stiff go below a main spring
to yeild a progressive spring rate.

</TD></TR></TABLE>

helper spring keeps tension on the main spring as well as the pillow mounts since
the spring is pushing against both the main spring and the mount.

so anyways, anyone know where i can buy some?

I always wondered if you could get separate ones for people who use ground control coil overs etc.

I know the Zeal s6's don't have those helper springs yet the main springs are smaller than those above. So why run helper springs? Are they so that the car can have a lot of suspension sag? I've seen rally cars with a lot of sag like in this shot, so does that mean its good for handling???:

Just taking a guess here, but perhaps the helper springs also prevent the primary spring used on a threaded body from unseating at full suspension de-compression.

you are correct.

about the rally cars, they have a lot of suspension travel not sag so they can absorb
the impact from the air they get.

who cares? they just make noise when that happens, it's not like they find a way to get off the shock or something.
