Is this guy nuts or is that a fair price for his R? He wants 20K for a 98 ITR with 30k miles...

It's not 'worth' that much, but then again, they are becoming a collectors items. People will pay what they want to pay for them, especially a '97.
But at that price, I'm sure it's going to take him a while to sell it.

with ITRs its a sellers market, they can ask whatever they want SUPPLY AND DEMAND, its how this country and the world works. no blue book price to hold them back, nothing to compare the car to. You can ask whatever you want for the car. Most of us on this board or forum own ITRs and would never pay that much for one, but if someone else wants one they will.

It does list Used Retail, as if buying from a dealer though. The prices listed seem to be about $4-5k less than what they actually are selling for. NADA and Edmunds also have values listed.
But you're right, it's a sellers market. You can ask whatever you want for one and probably will get it eventually. If you can wait long enough.
I'll probably do the same thing and list mine high and just be flexible. I mean, why not? Why not try to get as much for your car as the market will allow you to? This is a unique perk of selling a limited production vehicle.

It's not about weather he's nuts or not... or even if you're nuts to consider it or not.
How bad do you want it?
If something happened to my beloved R... I'd want another one... and I'd pay what I had to. Would I *want* to pay $20k - hell no. Would I? Damn straight.
Value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Unfortunately, your bank will need more objective measures and probably wouldn't loan you $20k for a 5 year old car that only sold for $23k when it was new.

One thing I've learned while looking for an R is that you can never tell if it's a good deal until you see it and speak in depth to the previous owner. Is $20K worth it, even in mint condition? To me, no. $18k would be fair.

Like everyone else said.. why not? If he listed it for $17500 then people with only $15000 would bother him and lowball him to death.
I sold cars in Tucson for 1 year. If you want to sell a car you have to ask more than what you want. Example: I had a 87 Porsche 944S (16V) that I bought for $2000 from an auction. I wanted to hook some local people up and tried to sell it for $3000... Noone jumped on it because they the price was too low.... Ended up selling it for $7500 after 1-2 months of waiting.
My point is: If you price it high, you are guaranteed to get enough. If you price it just right you will get screwed. If your price is too low, then you have to deal with people that want to upgradef from a YUGO zastava to a type-r. (Example: He wants $17500 for the type-r... hmmm,,, Let me show up there and offer him $16125...... He has to sell it!! It's cash damn it!!

Exactly, when I sold all the parts off of my old car, I inflated the prices to deal with the lowballers. In most cases, I actually sold them for more than what I paid.
That's not a bad thing.
That's not a bad thing.
If it is as well kept as he says it is than I would pay that much for it if I was looking for one. It just depends on what the car is worth to the person buying it.

lmao.
its funny to see you guys bicker about itr pricing. did you think this effects what others would sell the car for?
face it. you can buy a itr for 10k if you wanted to. messed up frame, salvaged, etc.
...or you can spend $xxxxx on a very mint/decent itr, and have peace of mind.
lmao.

I'm not bickering about anything. I'm just telling you what I would pay for an Integra. Especially a 5 year old Integra.

remember, he's not selling 20 98's for 20k, he's just selling 1. There has got to be atleast 1 person out there who would buy it and that's all he needs.
Well... for my .02, I think it is all good. If he can get as much as he can, it's that much better for the rest of us R owners. If the market can be sustained, our cars will retain their high resale value longer.
I personally hope he gets into a bidding war. Or at least gets his 20K.
Helps us all out down the road.
