Default ok new clutch or tranny???

hey, i got got my liscense and bought a used 92 civic si hatch w/ 97,000 miles on it, ok the car is cool and i know i am just learning the stick, but i have let a few of my friends drive it and some say the clutch picks up high and is soft and that i will need a new one soon others drive it and say the clutch is fine but when shifting hard into 3rd it crunches or grinds badly, but thats the only gear, now should i go for both at once or what, and what is the price for both......

thanx any advice would be great

first figure out what u wana do in the future are u planing on swaping or gona be simple bolt one or whatever. if ur gona swap **** it. the problem with ur tranny is in the syncro's and as far as the clutch. try this set the ebrake then put the car into third gear and drive (as if it was like first gear) if the car stalls then ur clutch is cool if it goes into gear and keeps revn with the clutch fully disengaged then u need a new clutch with the quickness. but if u plan on swaping in the futur u might wana say **** it and just wait tell u get a new motor

after doing that a couple of times he'll need a new clutch whether he needs one right now or not
