OT: 3rd generation iPod installed in the ITR

I was at the grand opening of the Michigan Avenue (Chicago) Apple Store last Friday. I was with some other Macintosh buddies of mine and we got there a half hour early... and were in line RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DOOR! (I literally was within 5 feet of touching the door handle. Unfortunately, the line wrapped all the way around the block to get in to the 6:00 grand opening. So nearly 2 hours of waiting later I picked up a 30 gig iPod. Best audio quality ever, hands down. I didn't know mp3's could sound this good. I consider myself somewhat of a novice audiophile, but the iPod satisfies all my tastes. It is a bit pricy, but like all things, you get what you pay for.
The cupholder is just kind of a hack job until some good car-cradle accessories are released for the new iPods. The 2nd generations have a neat little cradle that has line-out and a charger in it

I'd buy one in a heartbeat, but
1) They cost more than I want to spend
2) My POS Dell doesn't have Firewire
Anyone want to sell me an older iPod cheap?
nice, what did you do? hooked it up threw rcas? and ran i to the aux port on your head unit (same as hooking up a cd changer)
pretty nice, nice hack job with the vafc

Yeah, I had to buy this stupid-*** $40 cable to convert the CD changer plug to RCA plugs. When I bought the head unit from the stupid overpriced audio shop I specifically asked them about how I connect RCA stuff like an mp3 player to the head unit, and they told me all I needed was a 'cheap convertor I could buy anywhere.' 'cheap' meaning $40, and 'anywhere' being only from pioneer parts direct.
...Which is exactly why I've decided nuts to buying from most places where the salesmen make commission

The newer ones will work with USB 2.0, albeit quite slow. Also firewire cards can be had for the price of two fast food combo meals. I picked up an older 5gig for 150 bucks a while back. Best electronics toy I've bought this year aside from my tivo.
And for those w/o aux. inputs , check out the iTrip from Griffen. Its a digtially controlled FM modulator. It feeds all the 'tuning' via DTMF tones (like touch tone) so everything can be done w/ the ipods controls. NO extra buttons or frequencies 'wandering'.

Acutally I think USB 2.0 is faster than Firewire. FYI.

My friend just got his 30 gig Ipod and all I can say is that thing is freakin bad ***. He doesnt use it for his car, but hooked up to his home system it is a great addition.
Another one of my friends has that same pioneer headunit and I can attest to the MP3 decoding being shitty.

Very nice. Looks good, and I'm sure it sounds good from all the awesome things I've heard about the 3rd gen iPod.
So, not it's an iPod Type R?

My current collection is 70 gigs, it's ******* difficult deciding what to put on the iPod
I've got my entire Jazz / Blues / Easy Listening collection on there right now. Nothing helps lower the stress level on the daily commute more than turning the ITR in to an audio lavalamp love lounge
Anyway, if you like music, and have a broadband internet connection, and know where to look... you can fill every last drop of hard drive space you have with mp3's.
I'm thinking about going to CompUSA today and getting another cradle for the iPod...

...and using some kind of velcro or something to affix it around where it says "INTEGRA" right in front of the shifter. The dock can charge the iPod and has a built in line-out. I'm not really digging the whole cable coming out of the ash tray area setup, it's pretty ghetto
(Although I'll say adios to using the cup-holders if I do that... but who needs cup holders when you can have your nuts cooled?
)
With that being said, where around that general area is it safe to splice in to get 12 volt power? Is it OK to solder to the hookups around the cigarette lighter, or is there a better source of power I want?

What I'm trying to work out with Mike M is for him to get the T1R replacement exhaust AJ Racing is supposedly sending, and give me credit towards a Mugen exhaust... I'll throw the $250 or whatever the difference would be in to the Mugen no problem to be guaranteed an exhaust that fits great and sounds great at this point. This whole fiasco has been horrible, and fear of stuff like this happening is why I'd never gotten to in to tuning my car in the past. The RMA process is going on what... 6 months now? I could have ******* taken a row boat to Japan and back by now
