ok, really, i need some 195 falkens like yesterday!
help a brother out. anybody have a line on someone with 195 falkens in stock? pm if you do. i need a minimum of 2 tyres so that i can start doing some testing. this is plain getting ridiculous. send us some tyres already!!!!!!!!!!

nope, need 195's. 205's aren't an issue to get, it's the 195's that nobody has stocked yet.
nate-bought 2 extra 205's, just in case...

Civic coupe. He wants them on the back to try and make it turn even quicker. Old Jedi Mind Trick. Narrower tires on back of front driver, look at stock class Neons with 225 front and 205 back. Daddio is still doing it on his turbo SM Neon.
I'd put Nate in the top 5 in the country currently in STS, despite running the "wrong" year and type Civic.

nate before you go through with this you do realize that by running a narrower tire in the rear you are actually decreasing your overall grip. if making the car rotate is the problem stick a wider tire up front therby adding to your overall grip. I dunno....maybe it'll work for ya.
don't they only make the 195s in 14?

and running anywhere from 70psi to 23psi in the rear tyres _isn't_ taking away from their grip?
i see what you are saying, but i can't run any wider front tires because to do so i would loose gearing and have to turn a heavier wheel. my car already gives up some in acceleration to the hatch-crappers as it is. the next size up falken is a 215/45/16 and the 225/50/15 bfg is the same height, but narrower. hands are tied on getting wider front tyre, so i have to do the next best thing. why can't falken make a 225/45/15 tyre like hoosier does???
i just finished back-ordering a set from vulcan tire, they claim a mid-july fill date. well see i guess. anybody have a set they can let me use to test with? i only need 2 tyres to start testing and i'll be willing to return 2 brand new tires once my order comes in. any takers?

haha, i beat you! my 205's will be hear monday. dtd is still backordered on the 195's though (and according to the sales guy i talked to yesterday isn't expecting them till late july), thus, the thread.

gotcha.....well...good luck on your set-up...
if you're open to new ideas, and it sounds like you are, why don't you try this one.
while using the same size tire, run a wheel stagger front to rear. run the wider wheel up front, it'll make the shoulder more square, give you a bigger contact patch, help turn-in. run the narrower wheel out back, it'll round off the shoulder more decreasing the contact patch and also giving the tire a more progressive breakaway characteristic.
I'm doing that one right now. ideally I'd like to run 15x7.5 up front and 15x6.5 in the rear but since the widest I have is 15x7 that 's what I have up front.

The damn backorder situation is why I am street driving my ancient hard Yok A008R's, and saving my Azenis. LOL, stupid local SM street tire class. Falken tires
Falken order fulfillment
I need some damn all seasons for daily use

You are full of ideas, aren't you Nate? Why don't you try reducing front sway and using a larger rear to accomplish the same thing Wait--the master Daddio didn't approve, right?
j/k
Try running any 195/60/14 on the rear and see what happens. That should give you an over-exaggerated idea of what would happen with less overall grip back there. I don't know if it will give you enough traction on sweepers and slaloms with that skinny of a tire out back, but you never know.
Nate is going the way of the JDM roadrace setup, lol. I'm waiting for the 14K front springs and 5K rear springs.

well, i tried 700/400 but i didn't like how soft the car was. didn't rotate any worse then it did with the 800's in the rear, but i didn't like how the car felt.
i've thought of using a narrower wheel, but i don't think i'll reduce the contact patch enough with just running a 6.5" or 6" wheel. ask todd how small of a contact patch my rear tyres had at toledo with 65psi in them. it wasn't very wide.
nate-not JDM, just fast

Remember that on grippy concrete the car will rotate better because the front end will bite harder (or at least that's what my R does).
I don't know how much rotation you are looking for though. I've never seen someone have such problems after doing the rear-bias setup. But again Nate, throw Toledo out the window--the grip there was nothing like you'll experience at Peru or Topeka.

i've classified toledo as an anamoly. how much rotation? let's just say most people think my car is too loose the way it is right now. i still want it looser. by all rights, my car should be loose as hell. i run a rear stiff setup, i run rear toe out, i run rear tyre pressures aimed at making the car looser (high pressures of 65+ on fast courses, low pressures of 23 on slow/tight courses) yet it still isn't loose enough, and every time i make it looser it gets faster. tyre stagger is the next step in that evolution. eventually i'll reach a point when it's loose enough. when that happens, well, i don't know what i'll do then. maybe i'll just drive the damn thing.
to get somewhat back on topic, does anyone want to take me up on the offer i presented earlier? i've been told my tyres will likely ship on the 11th. hopefully that really happens. then i'll at least have enough time to do a couple events to test things out and see if they are gonna work. i need to stop fussing over tyres now. i have endlinks to make for swaybars, alignement and crossweight appointments to setup, and the guys at redshift are looking for a $500 installment on some top secret goodies.
maybe loosing by 2 seconds _is_ a better situation then loosing by .070. if i had lost by more i would actually think it was the driver and wouldn't be spending money to find that extra tenth.

Check with Sears. They found some 195/60 14s for me in one of their warehouses a couple weeks ago when everybody else was saying it'd be a month before they could get them.
Nate, have you tried experimenting with offsets/spacers? Like running 10mm (or more) spacers in the front only? Widening the front track reduces weight transfer and hence increases grip. It's a really cheap mod to try...
HA!!!
Try only having 13" and 14" wheels available for your car, and wanting a 14" performance tire... I'm down to the wearbars on my AVS intermediates, and I'm still waiting for my 195/60/14 Azenis....

When I was first looking at Azenis, I went to Sears for a quote. I forget how much they wanted, but I know it involved some K-Y jelly.
But, hey, if there's no other options, there's no other options.

Hahahaha!! I felt the same way when I went pricing the Eagle F1 GS-D3s I have now from Tirerack.Com. I just wanted to know it anyone sold them for near the same amount that Tirerack.Com did which is $79 for a 195/50-15. Every single Goodyear tire dealer including Gemini Goodyear down here in central FL quoted me prices over $100 and up to $130-$140 per tire!!! I swear I was going to ask which of the service guys was going to preform the oral on me after purchase!!

Sears was roughly $75/tire installed. That's about the same as all the other local places were charging.

and now we're back-ordered until july 25th...... so much for _early_ july ship dates and dtd's july 1 restock date.

I've tried 205/175, but 175s never come in same compound as
205... (i'm talking about Azenis, not competition tires)
so the traction difference is huge. Mucho oversteer.
It was fantastic though in lower speed corners (2nd gear)
I wouldn't recommend driving Laguna Seca like this
unless you know what the heck you're doing...
On V700 I've tried 205/195, and the difference is noticeable
but not as apparent. I'm thinking 205/185 is probably
the more desirable setup by my tastes) But my 195s
are outlasting my 205s so I'm waiting for them to die.
Good luck finding that pair of 195s!
