Default any LS owners swap trannys? I need your opinion...

I've got an LS and i was thinking about swapping trannys, either GSR or SI. I will be going turbo in the near future though. I want to hear from people who have had first hand experience w/this. Not just, "oh, i heard it doesn't make a big difference..." I want opinions from people who have done it, do you think it makes a big difference, any other comments? TIA

If your going to turbo it, wouldn't you want to keep the LS tranny to take advantage of the longer gearing and staying at max boost for longer periods of time.

Nope, you don't.

The LS gears are still going to drop you out of your powerband when you shift, because the land so low, and the torque multiplication is still less than a GSR/SI tranny.

I drove BlueTegs 403 LS w/ a gsr tranny and it was very nice. The tranny was great, much better than an LS tranny in acceleration, shift landing points, etc

What tranny you want to use is going to be dependant on where your powerband is. There is such thing as too short, you don't want to be shifting past your powerband, nor before it.

i'm in the same situation, my setup is a 94LS with i/h/itr-e, swapping with a gsr tranny or type r will it rev pass my powerband? It seems with my LS tranny in 3rd/4th/5th are toooo long not reaching my peak rpm. I tend to shift at 4k-42k rpm. I was informed that peak whp is around 5k-58k?
note: not stealing thread. lol

so a ls tranny in a 00 si with turbo wouldnt be a great idea because it drops below power band when u shift especially with lightened flywheel? (greddy 18g setup) if thats more specific?

I own a 97 LS, I recently installed a 95 GSR tranny. Big difference especially in third. The car accelarates harder through all gears big time. I eventually would like to get an Si tranny because the gears are even shorter in that. But if you are gonna boost on the tranny I say dump the LS, dont even consider the Si tranny... go with the GSR. I think its got long enough gears for great accelaration in boost, but not to long like the LS would. I know people that had LS trannies in boost... they hated it. Get the GSR, even in my stock LS its great!

flywheel doesn't effect where the rpm lands after a shift.

Again, its all dependant on your setup, what type of turbo you have, when it spools, where the compressor reaches its peak effiecency.

You can't just say "X trany with X final Drive is good for turbo" because there are sooooo many different turbo setups.

i have a 94 integra LS and put in a 97 jdm itr tranny w/ lsd and 4.4 fd. This was by far my best modification. The car accelerates a lot quicker and when I shift the rpm's only drop to about 4900 which leaves me in my power band the whole time if im on it. Off the line and around the corners the LSD helps a lot. I would highly recomend LSD if you are goign turbo you will gain traction a lot quicker and every time you shift you car won't pull to the side. you should go with an ITR tranny or at least gsr w/ lsd. the ls tranny sucks and I will never go back after having my tranny put it.

For sure, I would never run the LS tranny again!

when you run the JDM ITR tranny do you have to mod the ITR tranny in any way?? or does it just bolt right up. is there anything that needs to be modded for the LSD??

the jdm itr tranny bolted right up to my integra ls. This was my 3rd tranny install and it went as smooth as the other times. As for lsd it has no effect on install all you do is put the axels into each side just like a normal b-series tranny. also any b-series flywheel will work with any b-series tranny. I have my fidanza 7.5lb flywheel in my stock ls tranny and swapped my 97 jdm itr tranny in and kept the fidanza flywheel and it worked perfect.
if you have any more questions just let me know and i will answer them as best as i can.
