Car shipping companies?
I am currently dealing with a person interested in buying my car, but he lives in florida when I am in california. I was wondering if there were any suggestions on which shipping companies any of you have used, and the shipping cost?
thanks in advance

I agree. Horseless Carriage is the best (not the cheapest) enclosed transport service. I paid $1700 for shipping my 2001 Canadian-spec Type R from Seattle to North Carolina. The car only had 6k miles, so a cross-country drive was out of the question.

shop around...prices vary. Don't forget to ask for references, the more the better. Contacting the Better Business Bureau will help as well.

thanks for the advice, just one question...since this is being shipped from coast to coast...it would be a much better idea to ship it in an enclosed truck right? or does uncovered not make much of a difference?
I think in the summer months you are probably fine with an open transport. Not in the winter though.
My reasoning when I shipped my car was that I could do a three car open trailer for $600 or Horseless Carriage for $1000+; for the $400 difference I could fix any minor scratches; and anything major woul dbe covered by the company;s insurance policy (*note: which I requested a copy of before I shipped with them so I knew all the details).
Good luck :-)

For a car with a notoriously high rate of theft, I would not ship a Type R in a open carrier. All of the premier car transporters use enclosed systems. The chances of theft and vandalism are lower with enclosed carriers.
In the end, it depends on you budget and level of comfort. If you car is in average condition, or if you are the seller (not the buyer), an open carrier should be fine.

Anyone have any experience getting a modified car through the border?
I am possibly planning to drive a vehicle from California to Ontario Canada.
All I am worried about it if they will let the car into the country.

only if the car was the last to be loaded and was placed in the first floor..otherwise the thief would have to unload a couple of the cars.

in Canada we get parts like turbo’s too
They don't look under your hood when you cross the border. NOS is illegal, but I'm sure if the bottle is closed you'll be fine.
Plus our smog laws are waaaay more lenient then the California ones (and that only matters if your registering the car)
While your here, pick up some 94 octane for your baby at the closest Sunoco
Cheers

coast to coast is always the most expensive. i had my previous galant vr4 shipped to me from utah to new jersey. and my 2000GSR previously shipped from Minnesota.
the covered or uncovered carrier is something you do not need to concern yourself with. i would hope that you receive full payment for the car before shipping it out. all other options for transport should be upto the potential buyer as he/she would pay for shipping.
honestly, if the potential buyer can't find a transport company i'd question how serious he/she was in actually purchasing the car. it's just not that hard to find a reputable company.

How about a vehicle with a roll cage in it and no 4-point harnesses instead of seatbelts?
I see your point about them not looking under the hood, but with this car, they dont have to look under the hood to see if its been modified... its basically a track car.
