OT: Anybody with experience with A4 1.8T
Looking to get the A4 1.8T to replace my Type R. Any you guys driven one of these with the sport suspension. Just wondering how the body roll was. Do you guys know of any good suspension mods for this car. I want it to feel like my R but with awd. Also I will put a chip in it which would beef it up to 210hp and add 80lbs of torque. Not bad.
The Audi is a different experience than the R. I like the 1.8T. It has a nice flat torque curve. In base form, the AWD and the FWD is slower than the R, but it is much more luxurious. The A4 can easily accept many modifications. A good choice, but a little pricey (similiar to a BMW, but a little cheaper). I drove a 1.8T FWD wagon and liked it. But it is no R and vice versa. Two totally different cars.
FYI, adding a chip will void your warranty. IMHO, if you want sports/sporty car, get something that is fast right out of the box. It's gonna be your daily driver, no? If not, I suppose voiding warranty doesn't really matter... Having said that, 1.8t is a nice daily commuter car that has all the essential comfort and luxury. Also, I'm sure as you probably know that a completely new 2002 A4 is coming out. Due to this fact, you should be able to find a 1.8t w/ Quattro for around $23-25k after a good haggling.
That's a much heavier car than your R. My advice? Get the RSX and be the first guy to start hooking it up. With a body kit that **** will look bad-***. In no time, the top-notch Honda tuners will come out with parts for it. If that doesn't appeal to you, get a WRX! It's cheaper, faster, and handles better than the 1.8T. Besides Volkswagens are ghey!

, just put a H&R coilover and that's about it!
I know totally different car but they have great deals now and the lease is in the mid 3s. The rsx type s, I can't get a test drive b/c there all sold. The wrx I'm just not a fan of the exterior. A4 is cheap to beef up the performance.

good-looking cars are always good, but seriously, the WRX will kill all of the aforementioned cars. RSX is great, just think of a softer ITR and you wont need a test drive. A4 1.8t is just too big in my opinion, although certainly a cool luxury car.
If you want real 1.8T performance forget the A4. Get a 1.8T Golf coupe, add a the Autotech Sport Tuning stage 1 package that includes Q-chip, K&N panel filter, and, Sport Tuning Stainless 2.5 inch cat-back exhaust. All for $1,249.00.
What do you get in return? How does 180.1 hp and 206.5 ft. lbs of torque at the wheels sound!? Enough to castrate most Type R's and then some.

Yeah, but lets face it. As much as we all love Honda cars. The 1.8T Golf is the most underrated performance bargain on the market, with the Sentra SE 2.0 in at a close 2nd. Both of those cars can be bought new for about $17.5k. And the Golf can become a serious threat with less than $2500 in mods. 200+ ft lbs of tire incinerating torque is something we Honda owners envy. Lets face it a 1.8t Golf with a Stage 1 kit ($1249) and a set of Spax struts/springs ($899) will be a serious low 14 second threat on the street.
Hello.........S4 will kill all of those cars. Add the chip and you've got your self a new M3. I've ridden in an S4 with Chip in it and it had over 300+ horse power!!!!!!!!!!!!
H-PIMP: All very true, good point. If I were not such a Honda freak I would look more closely at one.
Cartman: The S4 is sick, but the reason he's looking at the 1.8t is because of price. The S4 is comparable to an E36 M3 in both performance and price.

With all this theft of ITR's and hybrids. The 1.8t Golf is a very appealing alternative for a good daily driver that no one will mess with, but still packs enough punch to hold its own on the street. All jokes aside, if I could get a buyer for my Sol, I'd seriously consider getting a 1.8t.
Yeah I'm not a big VW/Seat/Audi fan either. But I am sick and tired of having to go EVERYWHERE in my 20 yr old Rabbit (237k miles!) beater because my Honda cars are too hot to leave parked ANYWHERE!
Yeah that's what I said man...good god H-PIMP.
although it's better that way for the teenage population of NY, cause if someone crashes into you from behind, you won't be as pissed cause it's your beater...so some punk kid won't end up with 2 black eyes again

straying off the topic... but, I've been driving out family Tacoma for a week straight and I've got an ITR fever now ! How do you guys handle driving anything other than an ITR?
I bought my Rabbit from a VW mechanic for $800. The clutch, axles, exhaust, brakes, seals, head gasket, and, ball joints were all replaced at 210,000. I bought the car with 213,000 one year ago. and it currently has a shade over 237,000. Who said VW's aren't relaible? Yeah I leave it unlocked everywhere I go and could care less if someone hits it. It's kinda liberating.
If your looking for a car with any speed to it DON'T buy a Audi. My good friend has a 98 1.8T quattro that runs 22psi, chipped, exhaust, the entire deal and I used to beat him in my I/E/H delsol Vtec..... I would flat out kill him in my R.
I said USED, because he blew a head gasket @ 60xxxx miles, and is looking at 5K in repairs. Stay true to the
badge.

dont buy the A4 ... my friend got one and its slow as ****... if your gonna get a nice car get a 330ci.. or do a a2-vr6 swap.... mario... stop by patricias on morris park and he'll show you what real german engineering is about... he has an 86 golf with a vr6 engine and a few goodies.. he can barely get traction through the first 3 gears.. if your into luxury.. wait for the 6 speed is300 or s4 ... if money isnt a factor.. 2002 M3 all the way
Cosworth,
when I'm not driving my R, my family is a Ford family. My Dad has a Taurus (nice lift-off oversteer in the wet!) and my mom drives a 2000 Mustang GT droptop. The Taurus is too floaty, and the Mustang is a bit porky, and heel-and-toe means exactly that. Driving other non-Honda cars, even though they may do something better than a Honda, reminds me that no car company thinks their cars out as well as Honda, except maybe BMW. After 5 minutes in either car I get ITR fever again.

Well I test drove the A4 today it wasn't bad. I thought it would be slower. It comes 170hp stock. I'm going to test drive the rsx type S tonight. So I will have some sort of idea of what I want to get. Yes money is a factor. Trying to stay in the mid $3s a month on a lease. My R was only $309. The good thing about an Audi lease is you only have to get tires and gas everything else is fixed under the lease.
