Getting the most out of a B18c5 without removing the heads
Figure you Type R people would know best
I am thinking about All Motor in a 88-91 CRX. Within reason, STREETABLE and RELIABLE. I want to maintain as much factory stock internals since it is a fairly well built by the factory little race motor. I think If I can keep the heads on and keep that factory seal I will be a little better off. I am not going F/I so I am not worried about non power adding Forged pistons or changing the compression.
Within reason and still reliable/streetable how much more power over the stock JDM spec of 200 Crank HP can be acheived? I think 250 Crank wouldn't be too much to ask and I think that would be plenty in a Rex to have LOTS of fun.
I know, why not go cheaper with a CRvtec or B18c1 and rip it apart and build it for a strong N/A motor...That will never be as reliable as a Honda built ITR motor (IMO)
Thanks!

riiiight....
the people who even port & polish the ITR head do a shitty job... so i mean, dont get overwhelmd thinking that stock is the next best thing since sliced bread.

I just got my head back from the machine shop. They cleaned it and all and I got a chance to see what the ports look like. All I got to say is, What Port and Polish?

Have you compared it against a c1 head? I am sure you probably know what they look like, just wondering how different they are. I thought the C5 was P&P from the factory. Nothing wild since it is still a production motor, but it is supposed to be something

Comparing it against the GSR head isn't that good of a comparison considering it's a completely different head that's designed differently. Having said that, it's just a B16A head with some minor work (I stress MINOR) work.

I understand your desire for reliability. With quality boltons (SMS or Hytech exhausts, the like) removal of AC and PS, cams gears, and most importantly dyno tuning (with hondata, power FC, or some other real tuning device), you could definately get a good deal over the stock HP. Tuning is the key however, to both the performance, and reliability. Do some searching in the ITR forum, there have been a few guys with supprising numbers with stockish motors and good tuning.

the people that port and polish the c5 heads for honda do a crappy job, taking off materials where they are needed and not doing the essential areas but i mean they probibally have their goal to just get rid of the casting marks and thats about it...

define "people" it a lil more.
I can think of over 10 people who port & polish honda heads that.... guess what, actually make more power than a stock itr head. gee how could they do that?? maybe they chromed out the inside ports.
