Default Can ECU's be repaired???

Yesterday i decided to try out my PW0 ecu that i was saving for my other swap... When i turned on the car, i got a check engine light right away and it gave me a code 4, crank angle sensor i think, and the car would not idle at all, it was about to turn off. Then i put back my PR3 ecu and everything was back to normal with no check engine light. This means i have a faulty ECU right?? Is there a way i can fix that so that i can reuse the ECU?? Please give me some info on this...
Thanks

From what i was told it was a 5 speed, I think that if it was for an auto it would give me a different code, it happened to me before....
