Guys, it has happend again...my 99 GSR sedan was stolen yesterday night and the cops recovered the car by afternoon and towed it to a towing place. When I saw the car from outside I thoght nothing has happend....but it was a pathetic scene to see her completly gutted, stripped inside to bare metal!!! Front and back leather seats, carpets, floor mats, door panels, CD, speakers, glove box, handrest assebly everything gone!!!! Even they have taken the child stroller that was in the trunk!!!What is left inside the car is only steering, upper part of the dashboard (with speedo, tacho etc) . They have also taken the tail lights and the whole trunk cover!!!!

An insurance appraiser will appraise the cars damage shortly and following
are my options

1) Insurance will repair the car if it can be repaired in any shop of my choice

2)If the car has to be totalled then they will total the car and will give me
the money.

What do you guys think? Guys please help me out...

Do you think Insurance will total the car?
Should I push the insurance to Total the car?
Is it a good idea to replace everything at the dealer ship to have a brand new interior and continue to use the car ?
If the insurance totals the car then is it a good idea to buy the car at salvage price for fixing it myself? Any gestimate on how much it would be?
Any advice on talking to Insurance guys?

I had only 20K miles on her and had babied the car from begining. Look after your babies..don't be irresponsible and stupid like me by not having an alarm on the car.

They might total it, but I doubt it. I only said that because back in December of '94, I had a '92 VW GLI. It was stolen and recovered the next day. The car was totally stripped. Everything inside the car was taken! I had very low mileage. I wanted to buy the car back, but they said they couldn't sell it to me in case I stole it and had the parts to put back in. I didn't argue, so I bought a '95 VW Jetta VR6 GLX.

The GSR is more expensive than the GLI, so they might not total it. Good luck. Nothing is worst than getting your car back after it was stolen. Once the car is gone, please don't return until after 30 days!

 

Check with your insurance company about how they will deal with the money situation. I doubt that they will total it either. But many insurance companies pay you for whichever quote you want (pick the highest) and then give you the money so you have the choice of what to do (find the stuff at the junkyard or used) so you have the opportunity to use the money for performance parts. You're probably looking at a $3k check at least (I would think). If you can get them to give YOU the money, then get the stuff cheap and pocket the money. That's what I've done in the past.

 

HMmm I would total the car and possibly get another one (might as well if they are forking over the money). If they dont total the car get it all replaced at the dealership you got it from. The only reason I would do this is because atleast they warranty the work and will cover you later on if something is wrong (at least they should those cheap bastards). Thats my .02$.

First: Don't ask the insurance to many questions about pay and certain little things. They might get suspicious.

Second: If the car is totaled... buy a 95 GSR

Third: With the extra money... make it real fast!!!!!! eh eh eh eh

 

Insurance will send the adjuster to the shop and discuss on how much it'll cost to repair the car.
If the cost for repairing the car is greater than 70% of the value of the car, they (insurance) will buy it from you.
What is the value of the car accoding to them and according to you can be totally different.

If you want to keep the car, it's a good idea to have a mechanic check to make sure car is not sabotage ie-
sugar in gastank or time bomb hidden somewhere.

hey sorry to hear man - i'd get OEM ITR interior find a shop that will do it and send the bill to the insurance co, (BTW i'm impartial cause I always wanted to get the JDM 4 door ITR interior for my ride)

I'm sorry to hear about that. I get nervous with my car right outside my bedroom window. Isay if it is totalled,and you can afford it, and have a place to store it, you should buy it back and use it as a race car since it is already stripped out. Then maybe buy another teg. Dude...I'm so sorry to see that your were a victim of such a heinous crime. Just wanted to show some sympathy to ya. What sux is that someone is selling the parts to some local shop for some cheap. What's worse is that people out there will try to rip off modded car parts then sell them back to other import enthusiats. ouch! My friend's cold air intake was ripped out by some losers


Didn't have my car stolen yet...But was rearended last month...3000$ worth of damage!. I went to a legit bodyshop.

There is another option, one that I'm not too comfortable with, is too go to a shady shop if their is not too much damage. They can report tot the insurance company that the damage is far worse then it appears. They then pocket some of the cash and give you some. Plus they'll take some of the money and put on a body kit for you. i.e my damage was 3000 legitimatly. But if it was a shayd shop they could say the damage was like 6g's they would fix for 3'gs put on a cheap 1000$ body kit. Pocket an extra $1500 and they'll give you $500...I don't reccomend it cause its an insurance scam and highly illegal.
I'm not an expert on this but was just hanging playing dominos and was talking to a guy with a modded eclipse..so if you're a cop or an insurance company don't come for me...lol

 

all you people saying to rip the insurance companies, are a bunch of dingleberries. no wonder i was paying $200+ a month for insurance on my GSR. i really hope you guys saying to rip them off, aren't the same people who bitch about Teggy insurance being so high.
