Tranny Experts Needed, got a weird sound
Yesterday on my way to a car show my car developed a noise that progressed with speed so I pulled over and found out it was coming from the transmission. When i press the clutch pedal to the floor the noise will stop(you can hear it "slowing down" and then stops) which leads me to believe its either a mainshaft or throw out bearing (had this replaced like 8k miles ago tho when i got my new clutch installed). And my car had also developed a grind in 5th gear over the past week, and now its gone. So if anyone here has ever experienced this or may know what is goin' on, lemme know. And let me know what i can expect to pay for labor etc..
thanks,
mike

to be on the cheaper side of repairs, i'd check the throw out bearing first just to try and eliminate possibilities even though it was already replaced.
You said you can hear it 'slowing down'. That sounds like input shaft bearing or something like that. If it were the T-O bearing it would stop suddenly. You have to remove the tranny either way, so inspect the T-O bearing carefully before you dismantle the tranny. But based on it taking some time to spin down, I bet its in the tranny.
Its definetly the bottom tranny bear i have personally changed two of them with the exact same simptoms. Very common honda problem.
like they said above. If you were to press in the clutch, the throw out bearing is then in use, therefor that would create a noise. Since the noise goes away slowly when you press in the clutch, its your input shaft (mainshaft) slowing down which is causing that noise so slow down. AKA bad input shaft bearing. i know, ive blown three ZC trannies and a clutch from that problem.
clutch went out becuase the seal on the inut shaft bearing went out and oil spuged onto the pressure plate creating mad slippage, so i got pissed and launched at 6500RPM 5th gear
it did the trick...
