Default Tire Weight...

I know this is not the best forum to post this question in... but it is the best forum to get the answers I'm looking for. My question is... What are some of the lighter performance tires out there... Preferabbly in 15's.

Also, if you e-mail tirerack.com, they will tell you the weight of all the tires that they carry.

You won't notice any difference in tire weights unless you're talking about something like a Hoosier, which weighs an average of 11+ lbs less. 5 lbs difference? Not a chance. The compound makes far more of a difference in handling.

I noticed a huge difference when I went from a cast 16" to a forged Volk wheel. I think the difference was about 5 pounds as well.

Since it's rotational 5 pounds is really more than 5 pounds. I would think that a difference of 5 pouns on the tire would be even more felt since it would be located further from the center of the wheel.

What do you think?

I would tend to agree with this line of thinking. If lighter wheels are desirable, why not lighter tires?

A tire is a rotational mass part, those are the key places to reduce weight... I will get some of the main tires out there weights and post them. Thanks for the help.

there is not many tires to choose from, less weight is nice.. but... i'd hate have worse grip on the road by saving few pounds.. besides, it makes such little difference - wants to go faster, invest into stronger drivetrain,

lighter rims don't hurt, but i'd rather have heavier and more sticky tires with stiffer sidewalls.
