ok, ive heard 2 stories about em, people say to run one if you are gonna be revving high, and ive also heard it isnt really neccassary...anyone got some more info besides that it strenthens the block and what would happen if you had a fully built motor and you dont run one?
I agree with eg_type_r93. If it's fully built , i'd make sure everything was safe. Honda did it on gsr, type r, and others. Rather be safe than sorry. You might have to change windage tray, oil pick up, and oil pan.(not sure)

to run a girdle in an LS/B20 bottom end you will need to get a GSR windage tray and oil pickup. i use a GSR oil pan too but i think the stock LS pan might work.
my understanding is that the girdle really isnt doing much unless you are spinning to 8500rpm+. but if you are building the engine anyway, why not add the girdle so that you can more safely rev to 9000rpm+ (valvetrain allowing) if you should go with BIG cams.

does anyone have a pic of girdle? I must be thinking of windage tray (?) that covers the oil pick up when the oil pan is removed....
