Typer R shelter
After reading so many posts about cars being stolen, Ive been contemplating a metal shelter for parking the R in a apartment setting for people without a garage. I have a few good ideas on how to make it cheap/portable, secure and feature expandable. If the container was not an eyesore and smaller than a parking space, I wonder if it would be hard to convince the average apartment management to allow it? Maybe there's a better way....

I've had 3 real chances to buy an R(one was a mugen-modified '97!!) and I haven't because I don't have a garage! It really really sucks to hear about thefts BUT I don't feel quite as bad for passing on owning such a sweet car. Hopefully the new R will get here at the same time I get a garage!
Did you guys ever see "For Your Eyes Only?" The Lotus Esprit(is that the right model name?) in that movie exploded when someone broke into it. If you're going to lose the car anyway, you may as well get insta-revenge.
The hidden flame thrower security system in South Africa might be a good thing to try...

All you have to do is drill a large anchor bolt with an eyelet into the concrete/asphalt underneath your car. Then run a heavy chain through the eyelet and over your rear axle and lock it with a kryptonite lock. This would make your car much harder to tow away.
Another trick that works is to get a large long-bolt padlock and lock the clutch&brake pedals together. This makes your car impossible to drive away.
An empty holster of a .50 handgun on the dash should make any others think twice.

Just hook up the garage with infrared security beam which triggers the alarm in you room. Then u can take ur shotty and take care of business. Or a motion detector inside the garage. its not that hard to hook up.
so does everyone this its okay to put a cap in the person *** whos trying to **** with your car? like john travolta says in pulp fiction "it would have been worth it just to catch that ***** *****"
will this be used in court?
will this be used in court?
I like Big Phat R's idea.... I guess, depending on what wheels you have, you could run that chain through the spokes, and lock it to the ground that way....ut that'll only be useful if you have some good wheel locks!

The anchor by itself is a visual deterent, but not a real physical one. Even a grade 8 bolt would snap imeadiatley with the pressure of a tow truck. The "shear" strength of a bolt, no matter how hard, is simply not capable of withstanding the force of the intended purpose. Even it it did, it would not eliminate vandalism or theft of the parts on the car.
Now an anchored container with a wireless alarm system and retractable wheels with end door for car entrance/egress, and side gate for passenger/drive engress/egress would be able to prevent this as well as hail damage and so on. The side gates would have to run on guides up the side of the container so that the space would not have to be larger (wider) than the container to open them. The rear door could be swung up, or to the side. The challeng is keeping it cost effective and maintaining the security of the container by using welds and making all the fastener connections on the bottom which is anchored to the pavement.
You could also use the thing to haul your car to the track and double as a deer blind.
