JRSC vs Vortech in 4g civic w/ ls swap built for street and A LOT of auto-x.....
I have auto-x'd before, quite a bit but my car only had about 120 hp and the handling was sick. I drove a DSP '87 prelude in a bunch of va and md races. Anyways, my "new" car is a '90 hatch w/ koni yellows, eibach springs, sus. tech. rear bar w/ 205-50-15 ra-1's, for the track. I have a Ls motor w/ a new bottom end a new top end, it's not stock
I am totally confused as to which supercharger i want. I'm only 100% sure that i want a supercharger. I've heard that the JRSC is instantaneous w/ a nice increse in power and the ortech is a hair longer in spool time but a whole hell of a lot more power. As you auto-x'rs know, we need power asap but is the larger power output from vortech worth the sec or 2 of spool time? I don't care if the car makes mad power or not but i need it to be tractable.
Whats everybody's suggestions on these 2 systems for auto-x purposes.
Thanx!!

i'd put the money handling mods, seat time, and a few evo schools instead.
but anyways, the power curve on the vortech supercharger plain sucks ***.

low end power sucks, only builds top end power. search around for some dyno charts and 1/4 mile times on the 99-00 civic si (maybe clubsi.com will have something useful for once?)

Could be. JRSC would more than likely fit the bill for autox. You'll make more time down low with the JRSC than you'll get "up top" with the Vortech.

kool, looks like the JRSC is the one i want. I want to have the bottom end, as much as possible. Plus it's a hell of al ot cheaper then the vortech.

If i were you i'd look into a ball-bearing turbo kit.. with a small-ish quick spool turbo.
The JRSC's are terribly inefficient if you want more power later.

how is it inefficient? This is pretty much my last major mod i'm doing to my motor. The only things that i would do after this is some tuning and obviously my fuel system. The rest will go into handling and putting power down. I don't plan on making insane power, i just need to be able to use 100% of the power i have.
Autox is not about raw power--a good handling car on fresh tires will always beat a car that makes more power that has compromised suspension/tires.
Even if both cars were setup equally--I question just how much faster a 200hp FWD car will be than a 150hp FWD car--if any at all (especially if the 200hp car weighs more, which any form of FI will add weight).
You have a 1.8L built LS motor which I'm sure makes a decent amount of torque as it is. Why not build the suspension with a good coilover kit with revalved Konis, get some good wheels/tires (13x8.5's on Hoosier 225/45/13 A compounds) and try that for a while? You can always add power later on.
And remember--weight is your enemy.
Just some suggestions.

I can tell you one thing from experience. If you take your car with either supercharger and put you in the car, then have someone else, who is an experienced driver take the supercharger off (of course not feasible but lets say you can) and drive your car. I bet you 9 times out of 10 the experienced driver will beat you everytime.
As most of us know driver is what makes the car faster not mods. I've seen people max out their credit cards only to be stomped by a FSP Civic DX with only 105hp.
Save your money for an Evolution School http://www.autocross.com/evolution. With the money you spend on a supercharger you can go to 10+ Evo Schools and then kill everyone WITHOUT a supercharger

It generates more heat than power
And what they said about suspension and stuff

yes, i know that small hp cars can whoop on big hp cars. I've beat several shelby series 1, cobras, vettes vipers etc.. w/ my lil prelude. I also know that if you have a car w/ a real good amount of power and somebody that knows how to drive it, you can go even faster. I also want to run it at a couple road courses which is y i want the power. Thanx for everybody's help, it's giving me alot of stuff to consider. keep it coming!!
