Default need some first hand knowledge of hondata

well here is the situation. i have just recently built the head on my 97 itr with the skunk2 stg 2 cams. by the end of the summer i will have the bottom end built to be somewhere around 12.0:1. i currently have a chipped p28 ecu and a vafc that is untuned. what i am thinking is that instead of wasting my money having someone tune the vafc i should bag the thing and get hondata now. i will eventually switch in all likely hood anyway. so what do you guys think. what kind of expense am i looking at in switching to hondata. i already have an obd1 conversion harness, but im not sure if i can use the p28 i have already, or if i will need a virgin ecu. any comments are welcome

You just have to buy the EPROM chip which would be included as part of the package. The greatest expense after what you have is the tuning time.

sounds like u might be happy with the s100 setup

250 list plus 2 hours of tuning @ 135-200 depending upon tuner

you might even call a hondata dealer and ask them some q's

kyle @ ks-motorsports does a lot of hondata

and steve @ sgt racing is very knowledgable when it comes to hondata

2 hours of tuning?

Try about 5-10 to get it right.

Hondata tunes itself, and then bakes you a cake afterwards.

I've had my hondata s2oo w/datalogging for about 7 months now, It's quirky. The push button for quick changes doesn;t work, you need a laptop to set it. Because i have a GSR with crusise controll, i can't tap into the cruise switch for launch controll. I have to pull my stock cruise controll switch and use the supplied hondata one.

Tuning takes a few hours.
YOur dealer has to send your ECM to hondata and they soder in the wires that connect to the blue box.

I spent $900 for the s200, installation, and 4 hours of tuning on a mustang dyno.

It really depends on who's doing the tuning.
Its rare when it takes me more than 2 hours to tune an all motor car.

The ecu you have will work fine. you just need one thing added to it in order for it to work.
all you need is the hondata unit itself.

I agree with Steve....good tuners can do it in about 2-3 hours including street tunig....but having the right kind of dyno helps.
