Default Gas question

What grade of gas (petrol for those in uk) can i get away with using in my R? I tend to use 95 RON Premium unleaded but the filler cap says 98 RON Premium unleaded only...

In the uk we have either 95 ron premium or 98 ron super unleaded... I'm perplexed.. will i damage my engine if i use 95 RON ?

Yes, you could possibly damage it. I think the engine is supposed to compensate be retarding the timing, but I'm not sure. Basically whats happening(correct me if I'm wrong) when you use lower octane gas is it can explode to early before the piston is at the top of the stroke. This can create tremendous force and crack ****.
