Default Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket Question

I used the washers and when I tighten them to spec. (17 ft-lbs) they compress so much they look pretty bad. Is this normal? Did I do something wrong?

I've read that you're supposed to extend your intake manifold studs if you want to use the hondata washers.

My hondata kit did not come with those washers, interesting.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall hearing that Hondata no longer supplies washers with the IM gaskets because they deform when you torque the bolts down, and the washers don't help much to prevent heat conduction.

Use a metal washer on top of the nylon to keep it from collapsing.

Hrm, going slightly off topic. How does the Hondata Intake Manifold install to the factory head? Does it have to be sandwiched in between two OEM Gaskets?

The gasket does NOT need longer studs with the washers (They do compress to prevent that need).

They will compress when tq'd down and after a year of having one installed there are no ill effects to the compressed washers.

Everytone is correct they do not send washers any longer (They event went through 2 different types of washers before omitting them). Matt at Hondata has said befoire that they are not needed and to just install without them.

The installation instructions say that no gasket is required. I sandwiched my Hondata "heat shield" between two OEM intake gaskets. I also used longer intake studs-used a bunch of the RSX ones.

It's called a gasket because it replaces the need for any stock gaskjets and the britgh side is it is reusable vs the paper OEM gaskets.

And why change studs that don't need to be changed? I still don't understand why everyone wants to change these when the gasket is made to work with the stock manifodl studs.

With two gaskets and the heat shield, the studs were too short. With just the heat shield, stock studs should be long enough.

Which RSX studs did you use? The RSX IM studs are listed as M8x1.25x35mm. The ITR IM studs are listed as M8x1.25x37mm.

Makes sense but based on Hondatas recomendation not to use anything but the hondata gasket, why use 2 stock gaskets and longer studs? Sounds like a lot of work and wasted money.

My thinking is that with the addition of two more gaskets, intake manifold temps. would be reduced even further. As far as too much work, there is no such thing when it comes to my car; I drop the engine out just for fun

I have a gsr with the skunk2 manifold and by the look of my studs, i would have to resort to putting in longer studs to make the hondata gasket work.

and also I was thinking of doing the same thing, putting in a stock gasket with the hondata one.

oh and does anyone know of a honda part # that will work for making the studs longer???

I have the skunk2 manifold on my gsr head with the hondata gasket and used the stock studs.

92900-08032-1B (8X32)-They are incorrectly listed in the parts catalog-the studs are actually more like 8X42.
