Default 240sx w/ SR20 or turbo GSR?

Alright...I'm trying to decide whether to keep my '97 GSR....or sell it and swap a Sr20det motor into a 240sx chassis....since this is a honda board and I'm expecting some biased opinions, i'm going to post this on a 240 board too...so if you guys could give me any pros/cons I would greatly appreciate it

oh my car setup is as follows:
Itr pistons
" cams
g-force ecu
itr vlave springs
Skunk 2 intake mani.
AEM itr cai
Apex'i N1
Apex'i V-afc
aem cam gears
aem pulleys
(prelude injectors not on car)

So I'd be lookin at puttin in new pistons...and upgrading fuel delivery....looking for around 300ish hp prob...

Thanks,
MAtt

Well heres my old ride

With the GSR you could easily build it up to perform for you.
On the other hand, an SR20 would be nice to claim. The main thing I would be concerned about is emissions, they are cracking down on that but if you keep the stock 240 engine and swap for emissions you will be fine. so in any case you have some work ahead of you. Hope all works out

My civic made 252hp and 172tq at 10psi, I never boosted over that cuase my block was not sleeved, and i could not get over the fact of blowing up my car when it was a nice *** looking 2000 model that i still had payments on (kinda late in the game to decide that). Pluss i melted a piston once when the gay *** delta gate stuck on me. So i did not want to go threw it again. Pluss i did not want to have to get a LSD or axles. its was just getting too spendy. and finally i now have a kid so i had to be smarter with my cash. This called for the nissan, no more car payment and 30bucks a month full coverage!

the 240 sx swap could never be a ricer swap... It's turbocharged.

i wouldnt say that the 4k$ thing is ridiculous. We found this car for 500, jon drove out and got it, now once we have the fuel system stuff straightened out, it should make a signicant amount of power, and it will be as much as a Type R swap

I would go with the 240. I am in the process of doing a t3/to4E setup on my 94" SE-R and im shooting for around 300WHP daily driven on teh stock bottom end, but the limits of the SR20 are alot higher than that. Here is a little example. http://forums3.freshalloy.com/...art=1

damn i want your manifold.!!!!!! Cant beat full-race with a stick!! Lwt me know when these go on sale man and ill save the pennys for one. Very nice work. As for finding the car for $500 yeah it does happen. I paid $100 for a 92 civic hatch that was in great shape and i sold it for $2500 so its all in the timing. But the way things are now its hard to get that kinda deal anymore whitout getting real lucky.

As with the 240 being a fad... what not a fad anymore. Every v8 boy sells this truck to get the z28 or mustang cuse the mags say its cool. Honda guys sell hondas to get nissans, nissan guys sell nissans to get supras. Its all out there. Yeah its a fad I guess but whats not these days?

im torn between the two. I want to do a nissan 240 with a RB swap. But stick with the gsr man. I think the 240 will be next bandwagon, sad to say, but i think its true.

So very true. I would love to build a 240 sr20det. ON the other hand, I own a turbo gsr and its the funnest car to have. Power is insane! Sr20 parts are becoming easier to find, the one big question is fuel management. What is out there for the sr20 besides a VPC or SAFC? You know there is a handful on selections for the gsr..just my thoughts..

personally, you can't beat the SR20. I'm in process of doing 3 at my shop right now, one of which is mine. Parts are plentiful, cheap, and easy to come by if you know the right sources. The motors are VERY strong - our shop car is #3 in the nation on a stock block (440whp SAE on pump), and we tuned another to 474whp SAE on race gas with conservative timing values. These are stock, unknown mileage blocks.

The one thing that sold me is just the elegance of the cars. If you like a nicely done body kit, unlike Hondas, there are LOTS of examples available.

However, I love my Hondas and I always will. I recommend you do both
