Default Stock B18C1 with 135k mi....what turbo setup would you run?

Alright guys, I'm rather new to FI, and I've done the searching on here and pretty much decided to just go with the RevHard or Drag kit, but I was curious what you guys would do. I'm sure most of you guys would opt for a custom setup...but take into consideration that I'm new to this all...but I'd like to get 240+whp until I have the $ to build the block...but have the option of much higher boosting once the motors built, with as little lag as possible. I assume hondata's a must...or is it? I'd appreciate any suggestions

you could always save up for now, and build the block THEN get your turbo pieces. if you get a drag or rev hard kit, THEN you build the block....you'll want more boost and possibly want to upgrade your turbo and other misc. parts.

Good point slowasscx...but how dependable do you guys think it'd be, tuned properly of course, running only about 7psi of boost on all stock internals with 135k? I need a dependable daily driver, with as much power to the wheels without breaking the bank...I'm gonna be going to school fulltime in the spring, so won't have much extra cash to put into it then;

well if the motor is in good shape I think it will last you a good while but like said already why? Why not just build the motor for a Turbo now then boost her. Your gonna have to built it sooner or later.....but back to your question, I've heard of people boosting tegs at 160-180g miles and the ran fine at low boost.....

i have 120K on the teg i just bought, i'll let you know how it goes. if you have never driven a turbo'd car, i think FOUR lbs will suffice. no flame intended, i mean it! but if you want to make the motor last for a little bit to screw around in town, boost it jsut a little bit.

a lot of people think just because there's a lot of miles on a car, you can't boost it. what matters is how MUCH you boost it, not the FACT that you boost it!

good luck on your decision, and if you need any more input ask away! i got nothing better to do at work!

well if ur going to build the motor for turbo, then u can't get a intake mantifold right, cuz u have to get a turbo mant. well then u can't get headers cuz of that or an exhaust system cuz u'll prob need a 3in exhaust system and thats just too much for a N/a setup.

so what would u build the motor first?

get the compression checked and do a leak down check. If all is good, go for it.

u can keep intake manifold, u can't keep exhaust manifold (header) because it will be replaced w turbo mani, and building motor means to bulid bottom end with prob low comp pistons, rods and such...

yup. building a motor is not replacing intakes, exhaust manifolds, and valve covers LOL
i run the stock intake manifold also. no probs. but i still would like a Skunk2/ITR.

thanks guys for all your input...and yea...I agree that I should prob just build the motor 1st...then boost....but to be honest...I'm too inpatiant and broke...lolz...n I figure if I boost and blow er...then I have no choice but to build anyways...but if she holds for a while...then I can save up for the motor. Either way...I think she's pretty strong...I'll get the comp and vac tests done before. Thanks guys
