Default toda b question

i've decided to get toda B's, and I'm gonna get the toda valvetrain and timing belt before I put the cams in. just a few questions to make sure though, they will fit right into the b17 head, right? also, can these work on AEM cam gears?

AEM cam gears seem to be a love hate type of deal. Personally I would just get the TODA's to be on the safe side. Just as a side not...what cam gears don't work with the Toda's? Just wandering if there were any or if Toda made up the whole "some aftermarket cam gears cam bolt doesn't work with ours." curious as to which ones they were referring to. Thanks.

You don't have to run Toda gears, but I wouldn't run AEM's.

I run AEM cam gears, but the bolts that came with the gears sucked, so I upgraded to a much better bolt with a deeper allen head. There is nothing wrong with the gears themselves, and the timing mark etchings are actually kind of nice.
And a B17 head is a PR3 casting, same as the B16 and Type-R.

thanks a lot for all the replies guys!

yes, i'm running stock compression until i put in some CTR pistons. That's another thing, I'm wondering what rods i should run with the CTR pistons, since I think I'd have to shave my stock rods to work with the CTR pistons, and I dont need them any weaker.

I'm trying to go for a 9k redline, so now you guys have me thinking about C's, but I wont have an ecu for about a month after I get the cams, and that would be skipping the pistons and rods, could I rev to 9k with CTR pistons? I won't be using a stock headgasket when I get that far either. Should I just build the head?

Also, would C's mess anything up? Are they higher maintenance than the B's, or would I be okay with the toda timing belt and valvetrain, stock everything else?

you'll be ok with those rods to 9000, just have the block balnced with a good light flywheel and you'll be perfect, no worry's. have you already done the math of what compression you'll have with those CTR's in there?
i was spinning a b16a2 with a complete Toda b head up t0 9300, no problems.

The gears that fit without "lip" on the Toda camshafts (and stock as well) are : Toda, Spoon, Endyn, Golden Eagle and STR Pro series.

This only matters because when cam bolts are being torqued the lip can put added stress and break the cam ...

Toda RECOMMENDS that you only use toda gears with their cams, b/c of cam breakage when using a different size cam bolt then they have(something about torqueing it down too much..mumbo jumbo). Something like that, Spoon gears should work also since its a Toda cam with Spoons name on it. Its eithier just their way of getting you to buy their product or it really does matter. Eithier way, you wouldnt want to take a chance with an expensive head, you know...play it safe.
That compression your going to use will be pefect for those cams by the way!

Bigger cams require more compression to work properly. You can actually lose power if you go with a cam that is too big for the engine package that you build.
