I just dropped my car , and since i have been driving it there is this terrible rattling noise coming from under it, initially it was only when i turned corners and such, so i thought it was something in the suspension, but now all i have to do is hit the gas when im idling and it starts rattling! Is it the heat shield over the cat? Do they come loose? I haven't checked yet i was just making sure it was possible.

 

i dunno i have a 98 cx hatch and it had a heatshield oover the cat and downpipe. I had the same rattling (tincan sounding) when i put a new header on and took off that heatshielded one it fixed it instantly

i doubt that it can cause any problems, ive removed ever single heatshield under my car above my piping, including my cat heatshield. ive had no problem since.

 

It's most likely your heat shield, it's over 10 years old. I like having mine. I just replaced it earlier this year because it was all corroded and wrecked up from age. No more rattles.
