Default 3k rev limit WTF? Help!

Its on my B20 w/ a PR4 ECU. I hit and it sounds like crap. Although the car is running, its not running very well. I got the MAP hooked up and its not throwing a code for the MAP anymore, 4, 7, 14. Which code would cause it to rev limit early?

thanks,

Blaze

I know when my injector was out i would only be able to rev to 3k..might want to check out
your injectors. However 7 is your tps so thats a big problem and 14 is your idle air control valve

What about the code 4? I think its crank angle sensor. I know some peeps that had a TPS that didnt work and they were able to rev to redline.

thanks

when I was throwing a TPS code my car would rev to redline, but it didn't seem liek my car was as powerful as it should have been- and no- i didn't "get on it" when I was throwing the code - I just had to barely readjust the position of the sensor & it fixed my problem- this is on a 91 Si w/ a DOHC ZC tho.

code 4 will give you a 3k rev limit.

I've really done it now. When you turn on the ignition, I cant get the CEL to come on. So now the car wont even start, it still turns over. I switched the wires for the crankangle sensor cause I was throwing a code 4. Please help, the hole seems to be getting deeper and deeper....

Some guy around here just had the same prob with his b16a swap and PR3 ecu. He had the crankangle sensor wires hooked up backwards.

Switched it and the thing stopped the 3k redline BS.

But did it cause his CEL not to turn on when he turned on the cars ignition to the second notch? I guess I'll try takin the dizzy apart and redoing all the wiring. If any one had any other ideas, throw em out there. Thanks for the help!

maybe you popped the ECU fuse under the hood. if the CEL isn't coming on at all, even for the brief 1-2 seconds when you turn the key on then it's not getting power.

Very possible, I checked all the fuses, but I didnt see any that were blown. Even the ones under the hood. But it still cranks and its still pressurizing the fuel system.
BTW Im not getting any spark whatsoever. Im gonna try a new cap cause when I took it off, a little thing fell out of the cap.
Thanks for your help, keep yall posted.

Does the light on the ECU come on at ll? You may of blew the ecu. But what I would check is the sensor on the back of the intake manifold, on the very back side, I had htis problem with my ZC, and i had 2 sensors crossed, fixed them, and it worked GREAT. Just try around man.

silly question but bid you try resetting the ecu? worked for me one time. also check the wires to the throttle position sensor, had problems once with oxidized contacts and would just lurch and hesitate at around 3000rpm and wouldn't rev any higher. sound familiar?

I know there's a way to test it as per Haynes/Helms but I don't have one on me... search is turning up nothing

Just grab another ignitor, plug it in and try it!

I remember when I had the problem (different swap though) in my crx. It was running crappy and barely could idle so I re-ran the vacuum lines to the map the proper way. After ran fine, except for the 3K rev limit, and then I changed dizzy's and it worked fine after that. Maybe your Crank angle sensor is screwed up. Try a new dizzy if you have one around or can get one cheap. I also was throughing that code too.

i had this problem before. One of the sensors in the distributor. i think its either the crank angle sensor top dead sensor or cylinder sensor kicks in at 3000 rpm. one of the 3. i just borrowed a friends distributor for a minute and it went away. so i got a a1 cardone re built one for 150 bux, i also picked up one from a junk yard for 50 bux on a swap for my freind that changed from d15 dx throttle body injection to d16 mfi injection. the dx only comes with 2 of the sensors the si all 3.
