Default Competiton Tires vs Ultra High Performance Tires, etc.

My brother ran Yokohama AO32's on his GSR, then again on his S2000. The difference between the stock Potenza S-02's and the Yokohamas was significant on the S2000. The Yokohama's are just sticky as glue (they should be, they are listed as competition tires). My problem is I can't get the size I want (215x45x16). I am wondering if anyone knows of a comparable tire, something in the same class as the AO32? Perhaps something you autocross on that is still street legal like the AO32? Thanks!

He runs them continuously all summer long, changing back to stock rims with Pirelli P7000's to use for winter driving. As far as I can remember, I think he runs them from April to about October or November. Then, the following spring, he gets another couple of months out of them. I'll get a more exact mileage number for you nexttime I talk to him. He uses his car as a daily driver, to work and back, to the grocery store, etc. Plus, he is a fairly agressive driver, he loves to rail through turns (I'm always convinced we're finally going to do a 720 degree spin, but they hold!). So, he is definitely not easy on them. He did race over the weekend at a track in the Poconos, and there was some roughing up on the outer shoulder of the tires, as to be expected from the hard track use. If you have the money, and they fit your rims, I'd suggest you try a pair and see what you think (just don't drive in the snow, even a light coating, you'll never get out of the driveway, he knows from experience!). I'll get back to you with mileage numbers.
