What does the trap speed represent?
I tried a search and coudln't really get the answers I was looking for.
I had a pretty bad nite at the track today. The best I could do was a 15.5@91-93 mph. I've hit 14.7@92mph before as well.
So what does the 1/4 trap speed represent? I got totally confused when another integra ran 15.5@80mph.
I know it's the speed I come across the line at, but what does it represent? How can 2 cars finish the same time but with such a different speed?

Yeah basically. To improve your mph you must gain power or lose weight. To lower your ET you need traction. Traction will actually drop your mph a fraction. DO NOT ask me why....

Trap speed represents horsepower while lower E.T.'s represents better traction and driving abilities. My retarded opinion would be that, the better you hook, the less room you have to accelerate, thus the lower mph.
thats a good opinion....i never loked at it like that...but ya trap speed always represents the power of the car....60ft's and such represents driving skill...so if u have low times wit low mph then ur a good driver
I don't think driver is that important in 60's. When I ran 1.9's on Azenis I was a "legend", now with the B20vtec they have blown out to 2.17's and now I'm an idiot behind the wheel *shrugs shoulders*
There is a such thing as a good launcher and a bad one. Everyone has different launching methods and some are more effective than others. With the B16a, you were making alot less power so you can exploit all the power the motor generates. With the B20/Vtec, the torque makes it harder to get out the hole on street tires. Slicks would yield some healthy 1.7-1.8 60's.

Fair enough

Is it fair to say that if you're got traction problems through the first few gears, then if you get some traction (after the actual launch itself), then your MPH will be able to go up significantly as well?
rule of thumb is:
DRIVER = ET
CAR = TRAP
in other words, whenever im running i look for potential in the MPH and faults in the ET. If im running 15's and im trapping over 100mph i know im screwing up the runs and need to lower the 60's somehow.

In my situation, I'n getting the launch down alright (2.17 60's on nitto 555s at ~5000 feet elevation), but after hooking up from the launch, it breaks loose nearing the top of first and for most of 2nd gear (I'm froced to try and give it approx. 1/2 throttle to get any traction in 1st and 2nd). I'm trapping right around 117MPH, while spining all they way through 1st and 2nd. I'm trying to figure out if I can pick up a higher trap speed with some slicks due to the fact that I will be able to hook up at the top of 1st and throught 2nd gear as well.
That's right
ET is generally an indicator of how much torque the car's making and how well it hooks.
MPH is generally an indicator of how much power the car's making and how well it's accelerating.
I have also always thought about it as, when you get a lower ET, you have less time in which to accelerate..

Let me know what your E.T. so I can better analyze the situation. The reason why your 60' is good is because you're not leaving on alot of boost. Once you get moving and that turbo spools up, it's tire spinning frenzy time. At 117 mph, you're car is making significant power.
I ran a 12.7 @ 117. I used a profec-b with the switch hooked up to my horn, and I launch at a lower boost level. Once I catch traction in 2nd, I hit the button and turn the boost up. But, the traction problems I'm having are on the low boost setting (last night it was approx. 10psi on may old DRAGIII t3/t3b)
Any idea of what kind of 1/4 I could be hitting with some proper tires and suspension?

The excessive spinning is really getting on my nerves... I'm not motivated to go to the track because I know all I'm going to do is spin
Can you guys use the info I've given you now to help me select a slick size and matching wheel?

Pretty heavy... I've got a '93 si hatch... I basically just pull my seats out. Last time I weighed it I believe it was 2350 without me in it.
Seeing that you might produce more power in the future, I would go with a 24 inch slick. You should be topping out fourth on those slicks without resorting to fifth.
While we're at it, I am shopping for some slicks. I think that I'd like to try to fit a 13" slick... can you tell me what I have to do to get a 13" wheel to fit on my car?
I'm new to the whole slicks game, and any advice you can give me would be great.

Sometimes they step on the brakes to keep from not "breaking out".
