Default As requested, HID beam pattern pics (11 pics 640x480)

I took a few pics tonight of my headlights shining onto my garage door, showing the light output after I painted my headlight bezels black. I took some pics both several feet away from the door and up close to the door, and I also took some more pics comparing HID to halogen.

In all pics, HID is on the left, and sometimes HID is on the right, and other times it is a 9005 converted Sylvania Cool Blue bulb.

HID is 4300K Phillips bulbs and LVQ-212 ballasts.

My driver side headlight is original, but my passenger side headlight, if some of you remember the last thread, had to undergo repairs. The projector housing, including cutoff shield and rear reflector, is out of a 98 Integra. The projector glass lens, and the rest of the overall headlight housing, is original from my car (frankenstein headlight setup ).

**please note, all differences in light color between different pics is due solely to camera exposure. I can't control exposure settings on my camera and so the light varies in color throughout the pics.**

First, a pic from before I painted the bezels (car on jackstands, unadjusted aim):

Now here are the farther back pics:

Now the pics from closer to the door:

halogen vs. HID front view:

Notice the difference in the cutoff beam pattern between the HID and halogen. With the halogen bulb, there is a slight "blob" right in the center where the step is in the cutoff shield. With the HID bulb, there is no blob, and you can cleanly see the step in the cutoff pattern.

Also, even though the projector housings look identical between my original 94 projector and the 98 pieces I put in, the cutoff on the passenger side appears to be slightly sharper (not sure if it shows up that well in the pics).

Finally, you can see in the closer pics the glare that hits the garage door above the cutoff. I found that this comes from the light reflecting off the deep bumper recess directly below the headlight cover (that flat place in the bumper right below the headlight where water tends to sit when it rains). I stuck my hand on that flat surface and most of the glare went away. This would indicate another reason why the 98 front end is better. Since the headlights are more flush with the bumper, you wouldn't get that glare reflecting off the bumper recesses, at least not as much as with the 94-97 front end.

Okay that's it, comment as you like.

*edit* one other note, I don't know how well it shows in the picture, but I cannot tell any difference in light output between before painting the headlight bezels and after painting them.

good stuff man. it appears that the HID works better in the halogen lamps than the halogens did! [in reference to cutoff point] u didnt happen to get any pics of light spread on the ground did you?

I can try to get those, but it's kind of hard to photograph light hitting asphalt unless you can do a long exposure time, which my camera cannot.

Nice pics. Doesn't look like the black bezels deteriorated the light output at all.

Nope, both sides are exactly even, despite what it may look like in the pics.

naw not me, more like those people that retrofitted in OEM HID projectors.

But don't worry, I'm thinking I will be doing that soon, as well.
