Default LS --> b16

ok, I have a 91 Integra with a zdyne ECU that has a vtec control. Im thinking about getting a b16. Can I use my existing harness and just wire up the vtec solenoid? Can I use my LS manifold? Im gonna use my tranny. What else would I
need, I know I have to chop off a leg on my distributor... what else would I need.

Im gonna be purchasing a 1st gen b16a.

You're not really going to gain much by going with a B16A. It's too torque-less for your car. I'd stick with the B18 and turbo it for the same price... it will be MUCH faster than the B16 swap, especially with the LS transmission (the engine swap will leave you with roughly the same overall output... higher horsepower yes, but much less torque also).

Anyway, you can use your distributor... but the engine should come with one anyway. It's easy enough to wire up the VTEC solenoid and oil pressure switch to the ECU. You'll probably have to add a wire for the knock sensor (I don't think the stock B18A/B comes with one). Umm... you'll need to add another wire for the 2nd O2 sensor (remember to use shielded wiring for both the knock and O2 sensor wires). This is all assuming you swap ECUs for a PR3...

I don't know that the ZDyne ECU will work, seeing as it's for a B18 block and the stock PR3 ECU is for a B16.

actually I already have a turbo on my LS. I wanna try messing around with a vtec motor. My gearing actually is shorter than the 92-00 ls. So if I redline at 8000rpm on a vtec that would get me a longer gear.

If you're going to go to a stock B16A from a turbo'd LS, you're going to be kicking yourself... seriously... VTEC is NOT all that.

About a month ago I did a complete change over on a 91 teg we pulled the b18a and swapped in favor for a b16a no doubt about it we lost a ton of torque but the car did perform much better. It went from a 17.0 at Los Angeles County Raceway with the stock ls motor to a 16.1 with a stock b16a. You have to also remember there is big base to build on with a b16 it is a rev happy motor smack some cams in to it and throw your turbo kit on it and you will pull way harder than if you have the ls motor. Myself personally think it would be the right move.

thats odd for a all motor setup with a da chasis. I heard it would be slower to swap b18a to a b16a. I actually heard different stories like they got slower because of the b16. Oh well maybe it was the condition of the motor.

Well look at the b17 it is a 1.7 liter 170 hp vtec motor and I believe it runs faster than the b18a and the b17 only has about 10 more ponies than a b16

It's faster, I have gone form b18a to B16 and I love it. IT just revs much better form6000-8300 and that's all I stay in when I'm racing.
