Default Starting out with autocrossing question?

what are the minimal things you have to have to be able to get onto the track? i know such things like a helmit and im pretty sure you have to have like a 5 point harness. those things are just like common sence things.. but what else do you have to have done to your car to be able to race??? ive done a search so no one flame me on that one.. but will someone please help fill me in? thanks..

No 5-point harness, just a normal seatbelt. Some regions supply rental helmets, so you don't even need to buy one.

What you need : lug nuts on your wheels, a battery that isn't going to fall out of your car, air in your tires, gas in your tank.

A valid driver's lisence helps too...

Your throttle return spring needs to be working correctly as well.

Clean everything out of the car that isn't bolted down (ie floor mats, CD case, misc bits o'paper)

When you say "to be able to get onto the track?" what do you mean? You said Autocross, but when we say "track," we usually mean a road course. Which do you mean? Autocross (parking lot with cones) or a lapping day at a track?

And neither require a 5-pt harness. In fact, most will tell you that a harness is a bad thing on a track without a roll-bar. At an autocross, that is debateable.

Just make sure your vehicle is in good running order. Nothing special is required.

what he said.

When you go to an autocross the first thing you'll notice is a ton of non-race looking cars. In fact, a lot of people autocross cars you wouldn't even consider a sports car. Just about anything can compete. So just get a helmet (or borrow one), make sure you have decent tire pressure, and have a blast. Then you can worry about mods later

Look at the top of the forum, RJ has a sticky post that has a bunch of great sites to get into on getting started. In fact, here it is.
