Default How do you know when your axle is gone.?

I did a search and nothing, recently everytime i accelerate i hear thumping/grinding sound. i know its not my struts/shocks because they are new. i had my alternator replaced and on the same day it started making that noise. on the axle where the boot ends theres a little bit of black grease. is it just my cvboot or the whole axle. my motor mounts seemed fine.

ur in luck pal i had this same problem like 2 weeks ago...i busted all the greese outta my cv boot which leave no lubrication in ur cv joint so its just grindin together and if ur cars lowered and butterflies/cambers....then it puts more stress on it...just replace the axle thatis on the side that u busted...go to napa and get a remanufactured axle their only 69 bux plus a core deposit which u will get back when u bring ur busted axle back....its only like 70 bux to install unless u can do it urself,,, hope this helps

If you got it replace at a shop, they will have to fix this. They probably damaged it while they were working on your alternator.

thats possible too when they replaced it they might have moved the cv boot outta place or accidently sliced it

Given how little space there is to get the alternater out, a lot of shops will remove the driver's side axle to make room to remove it. My guess is they pulled on the axle to get the inside clip to release instead of prying it out. It could have damaged the boot or the joint. Not a coincidence at all.
