anyone with clear bumper lights, what bulb did you use?
I just bought some clear bumper lights for my 88 hatch, since I just got the clear corners and I wanted it to match. (anyone who says to paint them amber since it looks better, I already have a set of full amber orners and amber bumper lights, so I can switch back if i want).
I was just wondering, since the original bumper lenses are amber, the bulb is clear, I looked up the bumb number, its an 1156. So usually, the amber version of it would be 1156NA, although I dont think they exist.
anyone that has clear bumper lights and an amber/orange bulb, think you could check out the part number of it for me?
thanks
edit: what would happen if I put an 1157NA bulb into there??

1156 bulb is a single fillament bulb which means it only blinks, an 1157 bulb is a dual fillament which means it has the capability of both staying on and blinking.
just go to the parts store and pick up a orange 1156 they always have them

i was just at the auto parts store i work at, and they didnt have the orange 1156(which is 1156NA). they had the 1157NA though, thats why i was wondering if it would work.
either they're just out of stock of the 1156NA, or they dont get any demand for them so they dont stock them.
maybe ill go try somewhere else.
thanks a lot for the help. I guess ill just have clear front signal lights for a couple days until i can find these bulbs. either that or I could just switch back to amber lenses until i find it.

Some places even sell colored rubber covers for the bulbs usually you see them in blue, red, orange and all they do is slip over the bulb but like Matt said orange paint would work as well.

hmmm, orange paint eh??
i still have a can of that krylon orange stained glass paint that I used for my full-orange corner lenses that I used to have on, think that stuff would work? or would the heat from the light bulb ruin the paint?
if that'll work, ill try it out, its not like I can lose anything from trying it.

Just put a few layers on it I doubt that iut will ruin the paint if anything it will just make the paint fade so I would just put a few layers of paint on and try that.

it came out pretty good. the bulbs are a bit darker than I expected, but they're still totally visible when they're flashing. I'm actually pretty impressed on the way they came out.
clear 1156 + krylon orange paint = amber 1156(1156NA).
now thats what I call ghetto, lol
thanks again everyone for your help
I can take pics if anyone wants, just let me know

alright man glad it worked out, the paint shouldnt burn off for a while since the bulb only works when the blinker is on, so they should last untill you want to get some new bulbs
yeah, and when the paint burns off, i can either repaint them if I feel like being cheap again(why not, they look the same, and I already have the paint
, or I can just buy new amber ones. Although I dont think its gonna burn off for a while, cause its barely ever on(just when turning) and even for the amount its on while turning, its not on long enough to get hot.
oh, and I took a quick pic incase anyone wanted to see
you cant even really tell they're clear when they're flashing

and another to compare brightness to corner lights
all lights off

hmm, guess I'll have to check that out. I'm off today, but when I'm working tomorrow I'll check it out. maybe its just not a popular bulb or something, but theres pretty much every other bulb there.
oh well, I think my painted ones will do just fine for now

Well mainly cause the ones that you buy dont seem as orange as your painted once do. The ones that you buy seem to get heat spots on them and fade very easy thast how it was for my corner lights I would say after not even a month the bulbs were almost white!! Atleast with the paint like you said you can just repaint them, but i guess you could do that with the orange bulbs you buy as well!!

oh, alright
I wonder if its cheaper to buy the clear bulbs then just paint them. cause i still have like 3/4 of the can left. i know it would only be like 5 cents difference for the amber bulb, but like you said, the painted ones will probably last longer and also, i think the painted ones are a little darker orange than 1156NAs, which is nice. I'll just keep the painted ones until they burn out, then i'll probably just buy amber bulbs, or paint some clears again.
Anyways, atleast this way I didnt have to go out looking for amber bulbs, I saved myself some time, and about $1.
