Larger exhaust or e-cutout???

Larger exhaust or e-cutout???
currently I have a 2.5" downpipe to a 2.5" carsound cat to a 2.25" Thermal Stealth.
My question is do you think it would be better to go with a 2.5" cat back OR get rid of the cat and replace it with a 2.5" exhaust cutout and keep the Thermal 2.25"?
I already have the exhaust cut out and I'm kinda leaning towards that, but I'm not sure how I feel about running with no cat.
Just wanted to some input on this decision.

Some dude on nwdsm with a Galant VR-4 (I think) had a 3" w/test pipe, no resonator, just a straight through muffler... and apparently gained a peak of 5hp and 20ft-lbs! I think it's really weird that it was more torque than HP, but maybe it just spooled up more quickly?

what about sound quality? will removing the cat make my car sound like ***? some people seem to think it makes the car sound raspy.....

My car with no cat was anything BUT raspy.. very nice deep drone from the 2.5" DP to the straight out 3" exahust
