Default If we ran Summit CCW, what would be the most difficult part?

I was debating this with a friend and we really never come to a conclusion. One thing is for sure, it would clearly remove the gutcheck that is turn 4. I don't think I want to imagine what my car would do trying to lug itself up that hill though. I'm thinking turn 9, 8, 7 in succession would be the most difficult section.

Has anyone every driven Summit Point "backwards"? I've done Jefferson, but not the main course. I doubt we'd ever get to because the gravel traps and the like aren't set up to run opposite, but I'd be interested in trying it.

I think CarGuys has run the main circuit CCW in the past, but I'm not 100% ceratin.

T3 would probably be a tough one, as would T2 & T1 as it'd be a decreasing radius turn...

I'm thinking 9 might be interesting, because coming down the hill/straight you're gonna really be moving.

T10 would be very interesting at the present as well... if you have to drive straight off, you won't be going argicultural, rather scuba!

Dude, that is so wrong, yet way too true!

I think the hardest part about driving the course itself would be turn 10, mega ballzy!

For us low-powered cars, I think getting out of the 2-1 combination leading onto the main straight would be the most important. If you're slow there, you're slow all the way down the straight.

T3 -- off camber, downhill turn in. yikes.

T2/T1 would be challenging to really nail since it is decreasing radius. and very important to hit right since it leads onto the straight.

All I'm saying is that if you're not going to bother to actually *clean* the bathrooms, at least hit them with a casual mist of dursban or something every now and then.
Its not alot to ask. Seriously.

Scott, who used to think the bathrooms at the "old" Road Atlanta were the worst evar until he visited the paddock cesspool at Summit.

Really?
Cool. Wow... Imagine that. Actually investing profits back into the property.

I wonder if they'll go so far as to actually hire someone to clean the new bathrooms? We can only hope.

Maybe Corey is referring to some trees at the back of the paddock?
They probably just dug holes, bolted some toilet paper rolls to a couple of pine trees and called it soup.

You know, the sparkling new facility with showers between the tower and the old building? On that side road that goes behind worker camping, a couple hundred feet toward the pits from the tower? Good stuff

I missed the new toilets. But I wan't looking either.

Car Guys did (perhaps still does) touring laps CCW. Turns 2-1 are tricky (STUPID late apex) and as Geezer summized would leave us low power cars feeling like we just came out of Oak Tree. The whole carousel section is just...weird looking. Turn 3 really didn't seem like it would be that much of a problem. But this was at touring laps speed....

looking at the runoff areas, I don't think running Summit Point backwards was ever brought into consideration during construction.....

A couple years ago the SCCA workers built a bathroom behind the timing & scoring tower for their own use. On SCCA weekends they post a guard to keep the drivers out. Serious business. On non-SCCA weekends they are available for anyone to use. While they arent as nice as the, umm, facilities at VIR, they are a lot better than the outhouse in the paddock

joel

PS. Matt, got the brakes yesterday.

Even though they've been there since sometime last year, most people still don't know they exist. Thanks for letting the secret out Corey... now the new bathrooms are gonna go to **** too.

I'm pretty sure Summit Point built it. And placed it strategically to make life easier for the volunteer workers. But I've never had a problem using it.

interesting. I assumed that it was intended for the campers. Doesnt it have showers in it?
The workers would be able to use the several bathrooms in the race control tower.

See, I find that if I use one of my hands to hold it, and aim the stream, I miss the toilets a lot less often...
