cylinder #1 is next to the dist. right?
i know i am a dumb *** and every one is going to look down at me. but i just kinda forgot
is it next to dis or next to cam gear?
next to cam gear is #4 right?
is it next to dis or next to cam gear? next to cam gear is #4 right?
so when i am timming my car, i hook it around # one. the t-belt side, not the dist. side.
when i am timming my car, and hook it around the one closest to the dist. the timming is closer to correct, and when its hook around the wire closest to the belts its off! any ideas?

I use the one by the distributor for cylinder one...
but looking at my factory service manual, it's actually the one by the belts... at least that's the wire they hook up to in the picture for doing timing...

from distributor it goes 4,3,2,1
from belts it goes 1,2,3,4
so number one is on the belt side

Your timing is off and you need to rotate your distributor and check it again until it's right. Make sure you have disabled your electronic timing advance before you do any timing adjustments.

Your right on the piston possition.. but, for the most part, your right.. but when adjusting valves... TDC is essential. if #1 is TDC the Exh valve on 4 is still open.. or however that works... ide have to play wiht a set of cams, and figure it out..
so.. other than pistons being at the top.. the other half of it is valves.. and as we all know.. the cam controlls the valve
